Francisco Cervelli a Brave?

supposedly he and Wentz were going to the Tigres for Greene

but then other teams (the gnats and Dodgers) bid up the price for Greene so we had to include Demeritte in the trade instead of Jackson
I think it was originally Demerritte + Jackson before Wentz was substituted. But general point remains the same.

Has he cleared waivers??

From MLBTR

Cervelli still must clear release waivers before he’ll be able to sign a new deal. But that’s really just a formality, given that he’s still owed the balance of his $11.5MM salary — about $2.4MM. The Braves will only owe him the league minimum rate for any time spent on the MLB roster, with the Bucs paying the rest.

Yah, pretty much guaranteed to pick up the Flowers option. No other catcher for 4 million is going to give the sort of value he does. Plan A should be to sign Grandal and let Flowers be the primary back up, ideally getting about 30-40 starts and certainly no more than 50 starts without an injury to Grandal. If that doesn't work out, I'd probably just bring Mac back for 1 more season or sign Jason Castro to be the new Mac. FA is barren after Grandal and Castro and the trade market doesn't look too appealing either.

Smarter to keep him and trade him during the season if one of our young catchers are ready.

Really the same way with Neck and Ender.

As we are seeing, you can never have enough depth.

There seems to be a huge misconception that the main value a catcher provides is with the bat. It's arguable that pitch framing/game calling/handling pitching staff is way more critical.

There was a pitcher from NYY that called him the best he'd ever thrown to when the Pirates picked him up. Can't remember who.

Anyone notice Flowers is REALLy late getting set back there? Its like a tick he's picked up and is doing all this unnecessary movement as the pitcher is getting set to deliver?

Also- dropping strikes is a pet peeve of mine. Really grinds my gears if ya know what I mean.
