freddie freeman contract extension?

I would have given him a 4 years 100 million extension two years ago. If we wait until he is a FA he is going to want a ridiculously long contract that goes into his late 30's. I am more than willing to risk 1-2 bad years on the end of his contract to keep him a Brave. What makes the difference for me is that he is a high batting average hitter so there is room for him to get worse and still be a good player.

So was Pujols and how did that work out for the Angels?

Pretty good considering the TV contract they got out of it.

lol. Pujols' contract with the Angels is one of the worst ever Any team signing Freeman to a big deal is going to get hosed. There are certain conditions for him to remain a Brave. But giving him close to market value throughout his 30's isn't one of those.

I love Freddie. Hopefully we get the DH in the NL so it makes sense to keep him (and for Snit to rest him).

Bad postseason notwithstanding, he’s been the most important Brave post Chipper.

I may be misremembering, but I’m pretty sure Chipper kept taking extensions for lower AAV and more years that ended up guaranteeing him more money overall, but paid him less and less as he aged.

Something like that would have to happen with Freeman for it to make any sense to keep him. An AL team will simply be in better position to sign an aging 1B/DH than the Braves.

Looks like he signed deal for 3/37 and then one for 3/42 for his last 6 years.
