Freddie Freeman Hugs for All Appreciation Thread.

He is the new Chipper Jones. He has steadily improved every year and really started his breakout in the second half last year. I think he will win an mvp soon if not this year.

Better hitter than Chipper at the same age in 2013 and better so far in 2014. Think about that.

It really is remarkable the leap that Freeman is apparently making.

I don't know why we would pay anyone more than what Freeman is making.

Glad we signed Freeman while we did.

Might of cost 150-175 mil to keep him at seasons end.

Still trying to figure out how he hit that homer on basically a half swing. Is his wrist that powerful (no gifs please of SAV jerking)?

I love it when people think that Sabermetrics can tell them about a player without actually watching him play.

Haha -- These people love to rub it in your face when they are right (rarely), but are nowhere to be found once their 'method' has been debunked.

Law was low on him but never claimed that Freeman wouldnt be good that I know of

Were there Saber guys that didnt expect Freeman to be good?

More that he wouldn't be as good as last season. Nonsense about his BABIP being so high. His BABIP isn't high because he hits the ball and gets lucky, it's high because he can hit for power to all fields. Of course you actually have to watch him play to know that. As I said, I was getting grief on another board by people who haven't watched a fraction of the Freddie Freeman ABs that I have.

I'm not against sabermetrics but what irritated me was people using the numbers to say that Freddie Freeman was a 'pedestrian' first baseman. People who likely rarely see him play.

Being better than Chioper would be some huge shoes to fill. Chipper was coming off a year off with a torn up knee. I think it's possible Freeman is a better hitter (not accounting for position), but Chipper uncanny plate discipline may be the difference between the two

The walk rate will be the area where it will be hardest for Freddie to match Chipper. But I think he'll have more power.

Chipper had six 30+ homer seasons and 4 other 25+ homer seasons. He's currently 32nd on the all time homerun list. And you're expecting Freeman to have more power than that??????

People need to temper their expectations. If Freeman displays anywhere close to the level of power of Chipper did, we'd be extremely lucky. And that is not a knock on Freeman at all.

Chipper played in a different ear so who knows whats the truth with anyone. Freeman so far in his career has been just as good (if not better) than Chipper was at the same age. If Freddie continues to trend upward than anything is possible.

The #1 comparable for Freddie as of the end of his age 23 season was Eddie Murray. And of course he is having an amazing age 24 season so far.

It wouldn't shock me if Freeman has as much or more power than Chipper, though it is a tall order. Freeman could easily be a consistent .200 isoSlg hitter over the next few years.

The two are a lot alike in terms of skillset hitting. The big differences are that Chipper was much more patient and played 3B; which made him extremely valuable.

I don't think anyone expected Freeman to be THIS good. Anyone who says they did are probably lying.

And he may not be THIS good. But damn, he sure looks good these days.

Now if we could just get 2010 Jason Heyward back, we'd be pretty unstopable

He was 3-6 last night. Lets hope that is a start of something big!

Anyone who was a member of that other site knows I have been a huge Freeman fan since day one. He is and has been for the past couple years my favorite player. I love his swing, I love his attitude, I love his passion when playing the game. If you followed his minor league career, what he is doing should come as no surprise, he improved quickly and learned quickly at each level. It took him a couple months but after that time he would turn it on and improve in bunches.
Of all the signings in the off season this is the one I was happiest with, I know there at those Heyward fans out there, but Heyward has not come close to Freeman yet. Right now there is no first baseman that I would pick for my team not named Freeman. This team has become Freddie's team, and will be for the foreseeable future.
