Fredi's PT Decisions this Past Week

nsacpi

Expects Yuge Games
1 start for Uggla
7 for Elliott Johnson (1 in left, 6 at second)
7 for Gattis (2 at catcher, 5 in left)
0 for Laird
0 for Terdoslavich
5 for Schafer (4 in center, 1 in right)
3 for BJ

No games off for Freeman, Chris Johnson, Simmons and Justin Upton.

Six players got seven starts this week. Fredi should really be spreading the PT a little more widely this time of the year and give everyone a little rest.

I wonder if there is some kind of rub between Fredi and Uggla at the moment.

Being practical, EJ isnt going to lead us to the promised land either.

I'd be a little aggravated if my second baseman, who's making, what, the second highest salary on the team, is bitching about playing time when he can't even muster a .200 batting average.

Uggla was 4 for 48 in August, and 2 for 24 so far in September. No extra bases hits since July. There is simply no reason he should be in the game at any point.

Do you mean that literally? Because if you do it means he never plays another game.

Are you trying to make the argument he should be starting?

No. There are many alternatives between Uggla starting every game at second and Uggla never playing another game.

When Uggla was starting every game, I was arguing that he should be splitting games with Elliot Johnson at second so both could have an opportunity to get hot and make the case for being the second baseman in the playoffs.

Now that Johnson is getting almost all the games, I'm making the same argument.

The only thing I can say is, how can you expect or even hope Uggla will get hot for the playoffs if he hasn't show anything even resembling the ability to put together a Major League at bat? He flat out does not deserve to play. Even if Elliot Johnson is doing slightly better with the bat, at least he provides an upgrade in the field.

Fredi's got that magic touch.

Terdo needs to play a few games at 1st each week, and Andy needs a few games off also.

I agree. More ABs for Joey and rest for Freddie and Tron should be obvious moves, IMO. Not sure why we haven't seen them. Maybe Fredi want to make sure FF gets 100 RBI?

I would be happy to get the Uggla of the first half of this season (OPS .738 versus .513 in the second half). So he doesn't necessarily have to go back to the Uggla of 2010 for me to want to play him over Elliot Johnson. The Uggla of the past few months I would bench for the playoffs.

We agree as usual, but Fredi often does things like this that makes no sense. I reckon I have come to expect it. If he doesn't stop it come post-season our bench will be cold as ice. Plus our regulars will be worn out too (Simmons and Freeman are playing like iron men).

Now we also get the treat of watching Garcia pitch in the big series vs the Nats tomorrow. Minor and Wood better shine or else we ain't clinching in D.C. IMO.

We should really blame Neise for all if this....if that sorry hooked nose ass piece of crap wouldn't have plunked Jason, this thread doesn't exist.

General question; are the same people who are calling for Fredi to use his back ups more the ones who complain about the lineup's guarenteed losses when he does?

Resting players doesn't mean having get away lineups.

Hypothetical off schedules assuming 6 games a week

Game one Mac
Game two Freddie
Game three Simmons
Game four Justin
Game five Johnson
Game six Mac

Sprinkle in some rotatingwork involving Gattis, Schafer, and Bossman for the OF and it should be well rested. 2B should split time between Johnson and Uggla. Uggla has been struggling but Elliot cannot be the answer at 2B. I really wish we'd cut someone and bring up Tommy.
