Freeman, elite slugger

Looks like FG agrees that Freeman has turned into a truly elite hitter:

The money quote:

"The guy who was recently an example of how you didn’t need elite power to be a great hitter is now an even greater hitter with legitimately elite power."

He only has 8 RBI though, so imagine how good he would be if he "just knew how to drive runners in"!

If he stays healthy he will go down as one of the best Braves of all time. He will have a chance to put up multiple MVP seasons at his age 27 year this year. First base also isn't as taxing on the body and they typically can be effective longer. He's a star.

I have been saying for years Freeman was going to have a Votto like peak. He is the new Chipper Jones of this team. Amazing that he had a 2.000+ OPS over a full week.

This is a guy that many people on this board wanted to trade.

He's pointless on a team this bad and so far away from competing. He's wasting away on this roster and sooner or later he is going to regress and his better years will be behind him and then what good is he if the Braves are ever close to being legit again?

He has four years left on his deal. I think the idea is that we will be competing within that window. Of course if you had dealt him when many wanted to, you would also have been selling low.

wait.. are you saying we should trade a good player for prospects?

We should probably go ahead and trade Maitan too. By the time we are ready to compete in 2050 he will already be retired.

Really though

At the time, that was somewhat viewed as a risky extension. Wren (and JS) deserve credit for rolling the dice.

Said it last year and will repeat it: I knew FF could hit the ball a mile but never really saw him as a 35+ HR guy. Blissfully wrong.

I'm not that surprised. His hitting mechanics are textbook. He's riding a hot streak now and he's bound to tail off, but he is really good.
