Freeman Status

Just starting a thread so that we can keep up with the latest on FF.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, "there's still a gap" in contract extension talks between the Braves and Freddie Freeman.
Heyman writes that "both sides want to get it done and that’s the likelihood eventually" but adds that "free agency appears a surprisingly strong possibility." Freeman, who's currently scheduled to hit free the open market in November, has slashed .292/.388/.498 with 28 home runs and 73 RBI through 137 games this

At least we now know that negotiations have at least begun. Previously the talk was all that Freeman wasn't even approached.

I dont have a ton of trust in Heyman's output but the little insert about "free agency being a strong possibility" kinda speaks to me.

I can care less what he has to say, if we are being honest. This is honestly encouraging news because it means AAA won’t overpay for an aging first baseman. I love Freddie and it’s really important that he resigns, but there’s absolutely no way we should overpay for him

Considering that it is neither your or my money then what do you consider an overpay? But more importantly what does AA consider an overpay. That is the issue. What FF considers his minimum may or may not be in AA's reach.

Does anyone think for a minute that FF or AA would do any of this in the press?

Extremely doubtful he was never approached. Maybe formal offers weren't presented, but I'd be very surprised if both sides weren't talking figures over the last year or two.

I think it's more years than total money. If there is a gap so to speak.
