Is this the guy we had to decommit to signing? The SS pheom?

Robert Puason, Oakland Athletics (Low-A Stockton)

Hopefully Oakland fans were pleased to read about the best player I saw during minor league spring training in Kevin’s portion of this post, but now you’re going to eat your vegetables. Robert Puason, he of the $5 million bonus in 2019, does not look very good. His defensive performance has been mixed (he made some fantastic plays this spring while also botching some of the routine ones), but where he’s really lagging right now is on offense. He’s been very, very late on fastballs in my looks, even below-average ones in the 90-92 range. This is occurring from both sides of the plate and even when Puason chokes up with two strikes. Puason is still a big-framed switch-hitter who flashes defensive excellence, and I understand why he was sought after on the amateur market, but I don’t think we’re looking at a future star here, at least not one who’s going to come along quickly.

That's him. Seems like Coppy had an eye for guys who were physically maxed out at a young age.

Um. Kevin Matain didn’t max out until he hit the age of McDonald’s

I see Maitan listed on the Angels' AAA team's roster, but that might just be a holdover from the off-season where they placed him to keep him out of the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft. SS Livan Soto, another guy the Braves had to surrender, is on the Angels' High-A team. Yefri Del Rosario who went to the KC organization is on the Royals' AA affiliate's roster and listed as active. He was moving the fastest of the guys we lost, but he sat out in 2019 due to a nerve issue in his throwing arm.

I thought Yunior Severino was going to be among the fastest movers, but it appears he has flamed out a bit since joining the Twins.

I forgot about him. He's in Low A for the Twins. He's repeating Low A, but so many guys didn't play competitively in 2020, so it's not a surprise that some are in the same level again.
