Pretty awesome night for Tarnok and Indigo Diaz. I’m really intrigued by Diaz in the pen in the future.

I know nothing about Indigo Diaz but he must have some nasty stuff with the stats he puts up.
Starting pitching development must be getting to a few of unheralded draft picks. He was drafted in the 27th round a few seasons ago but was non descript to awful at Michigan St. He threw hard but no results until he was made the closer.

I saw him in May. He pitched a couple of innings and struck out 3 or 4 I think that game. I thought the batters had a hard time squaring him up and picking up his release point because everything was rising up in the zone. It looked explosive and I could be wrong but I think he was 95-96....threw strikes, I remembered that!

Thanks Deester. Diaz is a big (6-5/250) Canadian kid. Pitched two years at Iowa Western CC before spending his junior year at Michigan State. Was dominating as a sophomore at Iowa Western in 2018 (11-1/1.52 ERA/65 IP/101 K/20 BB/0.85 WHIP), but took a step back at Michigan State. Makes me wonder what would have happened with the draft now only being 20 rounds. I'm not saying Diaz is a lock for greatness, but there will likely be a lot of guys who were post-Round 20 picks that simply won't get a chance anymore. Could be a boon for independent league baseball.

On another note, I don't know who the minor league hitting instructors are, but they appear to advocate a "close your eyes and swing hard" approach at the plate. Last night's K numbers were stratospheric. Gwinnett only had 5 with 6 walks in their rout, but here are the other K/BB for the evening: Mississippi (17/2), Rome (19/1), Augusta (11/0), FCL Braves (10/1). The bottom two can be tolerated, but it's painful looking at the box scores and seeing these numbers and it's pretty much night-after-night with this (although last night really was Top of the Pops). Golden Sombreros for Franklin V and Paolini last night with 4 Ks apiece. I know the game has changed and the strikeout isn't viewed with as much scorn as in earlier eras, but I'm not seeing the kind of power numbers that would justify this level of non-contact.

I keep saying that while acknowledging the good things he's done. I think he and Pache both need the AAA at bats. Now if AA sells..you might see him.

Yep. Waters is displaying good power with a good OPS in July. Just needs more experience.
