Steven Gerrard set to leave Liverpool. Always sad when you see a long termer like that leave. You'd think Liverdook would have learned from United the right way to treat old vets, GIggs and Scholes were treated as legends and never let go, they were moved into more of a limited role.

I get Lampard leaving Chelsea, he wasn't originally a Chelsea man, he was a Hammer before signing with Chelsea. Gerrard shouldn't be treated like that. Galaxy is gunning hard for Gerrard.

LFC confirm Gerrard's exit...sounds like he's coming to MLS. Galaxy are the front-runners over RBNY, and I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad about it. I think happy.

Gerrard to Galaxy makes more sense, they need to replace link up players. Red Bulls need to replace a forward. I think Red Bulls may be better served trying to persuade Jozy to come back stateside. I hope Jozy doesn't, but that move may make the most sense for them, of course Juan Agudelo is still just sitting out there unattached, I have no clue what's going on there, I know his Stoke visa fell apart but how come he couldn't get a job elsewhere in Europe? Or Mexico? Or MLS? He failed on that front.

Good that Totten**** has passed Arsenal.Still hoping one of the Saints or Hammers holds on to that 4th ECL spot. Since it seems a virtual lock that City, United and Chelsea finish 1-2-3.

Looking at the U-20 US squad picked by Tab Ramos and I noticed a few cool things.

http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2015/01/04/21/09/150105-u20mnt-2015-concacaf-championship-roster-rel

8 of the 20 players on the squad are part of professional squads or academies in Europe. Something you didn't really see a decade or so ago. Another 4 are attached to Mexican teams, another 6 attached to MLS teams. Leaving 1 in college and 1 unattached professionally. That's insane that inTab Ramos's side he views the 20 best players under 20 in the US and almost none are in the college ranks. What's even crazier is that early returns are Jurgen's changed system is working. Kids are not playing HS or College soccer and instead are going to academies to hone their game, improving the US in their weakest position, fundamentals of the game. US has some amazing raw athletes, but they aren't learning the finer points of the game. Gatt, Shea, and a few others physically are up there with many of the best in the world but their mental and skill game is way behind everyone elses.

And silly season is under way it seems.

Podolski loan to Inter finally complete. Torres loan to Atletico complete, Ben Arfa to Nice, and for top notch players who may be available. Supposdly Sneijder is available at 20M his release clause. Real seemingly set a 20M tag on Varane who many expect to be a Man U target. Spurs supposedly making Lloris available for 28M.

It's the FA cup....no one cares. Add that they've played a million games in the last week.

If they get dropped out of the FA cup by Burnley people will care. FA Cup matters. And this adds another game. WHich will really suck if they lose Lloris. Vorm is a good replacement. Real should be swooping in for Lloris. Ditch Iker to someone else. He's gotten pretty bad.

Mike Petke. Best defender in Metrostars/Red Bulls franchise history. Retires with the team and becomes an assistant. Accepts a head coaching position on essentially a one year deal deep into the off season when the team couldn't find anyone else to do the job. Wins the league as a rookie head coach, first trophy in franchise history. Comes back in year two and leads the team to the Eastern Conference Finals, one goal away from MLS Cup.

If this guy got called into his bosses office, you'd think it would be because he was being offered a 3-5 year extension, no? Well, he was called in yesterday...and he was fired. Fired!

This has me quesioning whether I still want to give a **** about a franchise so completly incompetent... and that's coming from someone who has spent the last 20 years religiously following the Knicks and Mets.

Well, it's one of those times you hope the brass knows something the fans don't cause it looks bad on paper. Like maybe he really was just a terrible manager who was bailed out by his stars. Maybe he was hated by most of the lockerroom but Henry? Maybe they need to hire someone to make a splash and get their next big foreign signing. Not sure who may be looking to come to MLS that would be impactful like Henry, Gerrard, or Beckham, only name I've seen pop up that makes some sense is Giovanni Dos Santos who can't seem to do a damned thing well for his club but still plays great for country. A move to MLS may be ideal but I'd think a team in Texas or the Galaxy would make a harder push with a bigger Mexican population.

Cahill is still under contract for a lot of money and there was a clear rift between him and Petke. He fell out of the XI when the full team was available and simply didn't fit in the 4-2-3-1 Petke installed to turn our season around. He's talked recently like he has one foot out the door. Have to wonder if the new sporting director sat down with him and he told him it's Petke or me.

Personally, I would have kept Petke.

Seems like the most likely "conspiracy theory" to me. Team still hasn't announced anything...

Could be. I would not find out more as it is interesting to fire a winning coach. I'd think it was player issues. Jesse Marsch was named manager. So maybe it was just new Sporting Director stuff.

Odds MLS brings Jozy back? Heard rumors of other European teams interested in him, I just hope he leaves Sunderland to get in for for Gold Cup. US wins it thi syear they win a ticket to the Confederations Cup.

Actually just read according to Taylor Twellman 3 teams applied for Jozy if he returns, Red Bulls, Portland, and Toronto. Would like him in Toronto the most of the 3 as it pairs him with Bradley. the more key US palyers that play together the better IMO as they build chemistry.

I know where I want him, but I'd agree that TFC is probably the best fit. Heck, even PTFC is probably a better fit than Red Bull with their current personnel (he'd have plenty of chances set up by Valeri).

He came up through our system and is from NJ, so I'd like to think RBNY is his preference, if he's given the choice.

FWIW, I think Red Bull is the only of the three with an open designated player slot at the moment, though I'm sure that wouldn't be an impediment for the other two.
