Game 5 Pitching Plan?

I think we will try to shoe horn Smyly or Davidson into 2-3 innings, but I would make it a Night Shift game and just try to nail it down:

1: Chavez
2-3: Minter
4-5: Jackson
6-7: Matzek
8-9: Smith

I think there’s less “risk” with this than hoping Smyly or Davidson can repeat Wright’s performance.

Davidson could be lethal with Houston having very little scouting report on him. Or the spotlight could be too big for him. I think it's a worthy risk. Better stuff than what Smyly is throwing currently.
 
I feel like we are past due for the offense to explode. If we can put a few runs up early…Astros “may” fold. I think the Braves will come out loose tonight. Failing to win close back to back games will wear on you mentally. Just ask the 96 Braves…who were in a much better position than the Astros ever have been.
 
I’d say learn the lesson taught last night about shoving guys in new roles during the most stressful time of the year, and go with guys who have proven capable.

Chavez or Minter starts. Minter or Chavez next. After a PHer, go to Smyly next. Don’t let a pitcher hit more than maybe once. Pull the horns in if things go sideways.

Let’s not over complicate this, and for the love of baseball…stop benching Soler.
 
Got to go with Minter for 40-50 pitches to start the game tonight. Make him unavailable for game six if necessary and get more length from fried. Then all out for a potential game 7.

Valdez is pitching for the Astros so I think it's safe to assume Soler will be in there leading off with Rosario hitting 5th.
 
Yeah I vote no to Smyly to. I think he’s been figured out. I’d let Chavez start and bring in Davidson for an inning bc I don’t wanna see Smith pitch 2 innings.

I disagree there.

You want your best bullpen guys to be potentially available in 6 and 7. You have the off day to play with so you have a lot of flex. But don't overextend in the early innings of G5. Only do that to protect a lead.
 
Tonight is not a must win game. If we smell blood in the water in the 5th or 6th, then go for the kill. Otherwise, need to make sure every one is available for a potential game 6.
 
We can be a little conservative but if we score some early runs we need to do what it takes and put the hammer down.

I hate this mentality. Go for the kill inning 1. Why go back to Houston where anything could happen.
