Gattis Traded To Astros (pg. 13)

Except last year the Braves were in contention pretty much the entire season. Next year the Braves are basically out of it on opening day. Just being realistic.

There aren't even any exciting prospects to watch debut next year, unless you call a speedy slap hitter exciting.

Our high point was 11 games over .500, the team wasnt good last year.

It wont this year, but change needed to be made.

It was clear the Braves weren't going to win anything last year by the middle of the season. Thats what I saw. It was impossible to watch IMO. We will see where this season goes. I don't expect to make the playoffs obviously but I will be interested in seeing if the different approach to team building yields better than expected results.

Work toward keeping one, preferably Justin. Show some creativity instead of making assumptions and strained claims that you have no alternative way to stay viable. Don't throw money at an aging outfielder when you plan to suck . Invest in the team. Terrible I know.

Reality sucks, but the Braves had the 14th highest payroll in 2014 and were 18th in attendance last season (AND have $28 million in dead money on the books for 2015 and $33.1 million in dead money owed to B. J. in 2016 and 2017).

Not much of a businessman if you "invest" in that for very long, sorry.

Could I interest you in investing in the mortgage market???

Teheran and Wood could both potentially be top 20 pitchers. They are absolute studs.

Strasburg, Zimmermann, Fister, Gio

Harvey, deGrom, Wheeler, Niese

Verlander, Scherzer, Sanchez, Price

Kluber, Carrasco, Salazar, Bauer

Kershaw, Greinke, whoever

Just off the top of my head

P.S., chances of Teheran and Wood both being top 20 pitchers are slim. Both outpitched their FIP by a significant margin last year and lost a great OF defender and downgrade from Upton to Gattis in LF.

Gattis will not be in LF next year on opening day. We will see on Teheran and Wood. They are young guys still coming into their own. Not sure why I shouldn't be bullish on them. What have they shown that would make me believe otherwise?

Positive signs =/= top 20 starting pitchers.

Want to guess how many pitchers have a lower ERA (or ERA+ if you prefer) than Julio since the start of 2013? Same question for Wood?

I'll give you a hint, it isn't 20.

Why would you use foolish facts like how a pitcher performed? That doesn't make any sense at all. Teheran and Wood are both studs.

Its funny how giles hypes up Nats players but always downplays some players on the Braves when we say good things about them.

But he isnt a Nats fan.

Are we going back to thinking ERA is a good predictive measure?

Both are very good young pitchers. That doesn't mean I have to drink the "both are going to be top 20 pitchers" kool aid.

Performance at a young age is a pretty good indicator as well.

Its not like these guys walk a tremendous amount of guys or give up hard contact.

That doesn't mean they will be top 20. They have solid peripherals, but accounting for the decline in defense in 2014 and the predictive nature of other statistics, it's likely wishful thinking that both will be able to perform as top 20 starters.

Here are the Steamer predictions for both; just as a guide:

Teheran 3.80 ERA, 4.10 FIP.
Wood 3.60 ERA, 3.50 FIP

What were there steamer projections last year?

Right now, no?

But health provided its not a crazy statement to say.

I gave you ERA+ as well. I think a pitcher with 2 consecutive years with an ERA right around 3.00 and ERA+ around 121 is pretty likely to repeat those numbers. Especially a pitcher as talented as JT is.

You said they weren't going to finish top 20. Well they have certainly been top 20 over the last seasons. But I guess since FIP says so it must be true.....
