Gattis Traded To Astros (pg. 13)

I like the trade but I am not gonna label it as a big haul. Folty is probably is a future power reliever in the mold of Jordan Walden. I like Ruin and Thurman is a solid prospect. I was really worried about Gattis killing his value with an injury plagued year and I now have the option to see him play in person so I like the trade. The offense is going to be abysmal now though. Who hits cleanup, Chris Johnson? He will clear the bases alright.

I hated the idea of Gattis in left for a year killing his value and our defense. Great deal. Best so far and yet another that makes the Upton trade look like ****.

I dont get this. Upton was a 1 year player. Gattis was a 4 year guy.

Rio Ruiz is a hell of a prospect and a position of need. Do not overlook how big of a piece he is in this.

I think this is a solid trade, given that Gattis was only really a trade-option for AL teams. However—given preceding deals—it would have been nice to maybe receive two position-players and one pitcher, and not the other way around.

Lol houston sports radio just picked up on the trade. Clueless radio guy "Fowler could be involves, they have a hole in the outfield after trading Justin Upton". If the Braves traded for a 1 year rental it would officially be torch and pitchfork time.

I don't feel like arguing. In my opinion (and after I considered the control and quality of Upton and Gattis and the returns for both), this is another trade that killed the Upton one in terms of value and risk.

If we had a DH spot or 1b spot open Gattis would still be a brave. I think the Braves are correct in doubting his ability to stay healthy playing other positions.

Not in love with the trade overall but solid return for Gattis. Would like to watch Rio Ruiz play some, could be a solid player. Wish he was a righty though.

The deal (assuming it goes through) basically eliminates one of my complaints about this off-season, which is that we were essentially half-assing a rebuild. We're approaching it thoroughly now, which is good. It does make the Markakis deal even weirder and more unnecessary, I remain unconvinced that a rebuild was strictly necessary and I'm thoroughly unconvinced that Bethancourt is a good option at catcher. But considering the overarching strategy Hart chose, a Gattis trade at least means we're committing fully to it.

Now what I'd like to see us do is really lean into the rebuild and let Terdoslavich play left instead of signing a one-year free agent retread. He'll almost certainly prove unworthy of the role, but at least we'll know for sure, and that's the whole point of a season like the one we're facing: giving young, borderline guys a final chance to swim or drown.

4 times is a big overstatement. If Gattis had 1 year left under control he would have returned much less than Utpon.

Sorry I don't think Gattis is a 1WAR player in the OF. He can hit obviously, but health and total ineptness in the OF hurt him. Justin is a better hitter and has a higher upside due to patience.
