GDT 04/16/21: Braves Set To Win Bigly At Wrigley

I still can't believe Acuña scored from 2nd on an infield single to short lol

granted he should have been out by a mile had the catcher caught the throw from Baez....still, it puts pressure on the defense to make a play and in this case, Baez damn near **** his pants when he saw Acuna going

The catcher missed the tag, so there is a chance he would've been safe. Definitely not out by a mile.

Watch the play. Acuna missed the plate because Contreras was blocking the plate before he got the ball. If there was any time they could have called it was then. But mlb never calls that rule. If Contreras moved up to a legal position, Acuna has a more direct line and maybe scores even if caught cleanly.

That was reckless base running by Acuna, and the only reason people are applauding that play was because Baez botched it. Baez literally triple pumped between 2 bases because he couldn’t believe Acuna was running. Had Acuna been thrown out like he should have been, folks would be chastising him for the boneheaded play. Word is about to get out about his aggressiveness on the bases, and teams will quickly stop being surprised by it.

As usual, casual fans are thinking casually about events on the field.

It's kinda cool. He hasn't been in the majors since a stint with the Padres in 2008. You usually don't see guys hang around this long, but he obviously loves the game and he's been a handy guy to have around in Gwinnett since 2013. Welcome back!

Wouldn't be a comprehensive post if I didn't include this:

Love the story, but this sure makes me wonder if there's something wrong with Arcia. Not sure I understand calling up the career minor leaguer who doesn't fill a need instead of the guy you just traded two Pitchers for when he plays the same positions.

Bit of a head-scratcher IMO.

No question - but they sure seem to have one *elluva lot more fun watching the games than some folks around here.

Have a beer and a smile - it'll do wonders for your disposition AND your blood pressure.
