GDT: (08/14/14) Dodgers (Hernandez) @ Braves (Harang) Early Game!

You geniuses realize that Santana and Harang (or anyone) would have to first pass through waivers in order to be traded? Chances are neither of them would make it through and the Braves would be stuck dealing with only the team that claimed them, and thus losing almost all leverage. In the case of someone like Gattis, who would be claimed by even the worst teams, nobody with a poor enough record to win the claim on a player like Gattis would be willing/able to take on BJ's contract.

But I'm sure such astute baseball minds already knew about those minor complications.

I'd bet a sizable amount that both Santana and Harang have already cleared waivers. But even if they haven't, what's the harm in trying to get them through?

There are different types of waivers you can place a player on.

It's called revocable waivers. Team A puts a claim on a player. The original team in this case is the Braves. The Braves can choose to pull that player back if they wish.

We weren't a bad baseball team before this month. We're just in a major funk right now. We'll get out of it, but it may be too little too late by the time that happens.

This is not a funk. We are a bad baseball team. We had one good month....one. Let that sink in. You can't really blame the injuries either. Santana has replaced Medlen well and Harang has been serviceable. This year is not Fredi's fault either. He's got what he's got to work with. This is a talented group but BJ and Minor just did not show up this year. Gattis while not a bust has proven he's a DH playing catcher, but other than that the 29 other teams would line up to take any of our starters. As fans we should count ourselves fortunate. This is as close to '80s Braves baseball as we have been since then. Those teams just couldn't compete because of talent. This team doesn't have that excuse.
