GDT: 09/28 Braves @ gNats: What's That Odor?

I want the division badly if given the choice, but I do think the layoff could end up hurting the bye teams.

If you can win the first 2 games of your WC series, then I might agree with you. you would most likely have enough time to reset you staff a bit more and your offense should still be clicking.

Nothing would surprise me. This team has been counted out before and always responds. They have won 97 games. In most yrs that would be enough to win the division. They are elite…problem is the NL is extremely tough this yr. I think we have as good a shot as any to win it…even if we don’t win the division

It’s definitely one of those years where any of the Braves/Dodgers/Mets winning the WS wouldn’t be a shock.
I really believe those are the 3 best teams,
One of which that will win it all.
I know Houston and New York are good but not like those 3 teams are imo.

Honestly feel like we are in for an early exit. This team started this year with the WS hangover effect. Can't blame them. Also, some guys have not been the same, I.E. Matzek and Anderson, etc. It seems like we have been on such a good run for so long now just to make up ground, that we are tiring out here at the end of the season.

Riley and Swanson have been dreadful. We are FINALLY seeing Olson break out of his slump, and Acuna has been hit or miss at times.

I, for one, can't wait to see what moves AA makes this offseason because I do believe he is going to make a few big moves we are not expecting.

Agreed, t think this has the look of 1993 all over it. Even Fried hasn't been sharp for a bit. I doubt they suddenly find it in the post-season.

That is the exact point. They have played at such a high level for so long, they seem to be tiring out here at the end. You can only maintain a high level of performance for so long.

I don't know what to expect. I do know the braves have played really well the last 2 postseasons, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt

So? Still not good enough to get them over the hump and be the best in the division.

The problem isn't how the Braves are playing now, but how they performed prior to June 1st.

Win just four more games (28-23, .549 win %) in the first two months, or one game every two weeks, and we're in a position to clinch as early as Saturday night.

Had they played to their current win percentage of .622 for that time frame (31-20), the division title would already belong to Atlanta.

a case for a week playoff run would be record against >.500 teams. That is not good. Now I don't know what that is since June 1st (when Strider went to starting and MH2 called up) but the overall is piss poor. This team does well against crap teams for the most part... but I am not sure how many of those teams we are going to face in October.

But if Olson/Riley/Acuna go streaking then we have the potential to beat any team. any 2 of those 3 that is.

A few notes from their record this season:

6-7 in extra inning games
25-18 in 1 run games
24-26 in day games
44-26 VS the NL East
21-12 VS the NL Central
19-14 VS the NL West
47-25 @ Home
41-30 Away
28-32 vs teams over .500

I highlighted the teams over .500 record as well as the day game records. Main reason, we are sure to always have the day games because MLB hates the Braves

This team is going to win about 100 games, and has already won 17 games this month. But they lost the last game we saw them play.

So naturally folks are complaining about them not playing well.

68% over 162 games is 110 wins. You should never use that record as a reason "they won't suddenly find it". They're playing very well.
the good thing about this team is that it’s rare that everyone sucks at once - you normally see everyone clicking at once or at least the offense carrying the pitching or vice versa. They just play well enough on a consistent basis to win most series. I hope it translates well in the playoffs, because it clearly has over the last two years.

Yeah they don’t win every game they play. So I guess they are struggling. Winning 100 games in a season is very difficult and if you accomplish it you are a great team. Period!

I still don’t think the Mets are as good as us. I think it’s us or the Dodgers with SD as a dark horse.
