GDT 10/2/22: Braves vs Mutts - The Deciding Game

I was unable to watch any of the games this weekend, but damn am I proud of the effort the Braves put in to all but seal the NL East. It really is amazing - 77-32 is what it took in the end to chase them down in the last 4 months of the season. I mean, 65-45 is not a bad record. One would think that would be enough to stave off any team you had a 10.5 gm lead on.

Kenley Jansen, and closers in general, deserve more respect. What they do is incredibly hard. It's not just a job for the flashiest and seemingly best reliever. It's for the guy who can bend a little but will never break. Iglesius could do it but he isn't going to be perfect either.

Changing closers late in the season has risks. And how could any Braves fan not remember what Will Smith did last year???

I will admit this series was the second most incredible thing I have seen a Braves team do. Second only to last year's World Series pushing the 1993 and 1991 miracles down a peg, and pushing the '95 Championship all the way to fifth place for me. It would be different if the Mets had tanked but they haven't the Braves have just outplayed them. And that is with a 70% Acuna, a reserve 2nd baseman, and a slight downgrade at first that is impressive.

This is one of the best teams in franchise history. enjoy it.

Hard to believe we're still gonna win the division. I know NY paper are gonna call this a choke job by the Mets, but the Mets have been really good too. We've just been the best team in baseball over the last few months. We've earned it. Let's finish it out tomorrow.

The 77-32 record in our last 109 is a .706 win%. That'd be 114-115 win pace over an entire season. Incredible.

anything in baseball can and usually will happen if you play long enough.. but the Braves sweeping the Mets out of 1st place with thier 3 big guns going and us missing one of our biggest had to be one of the biggest surprises to me.. I actually felt pretty good about last night's game once we beat Jake and Max.. you always worry about a let down or Twit, Twitting things.. but the team is good and they can win despite bad lineup cards.

We just need to close this tonight, so the Braves can play the last 2 like spring games. Position players only getting a couple AB's and pitchers just getting innings to cycle down. We are going to be off for what 5 or more days.. I don't think we need to rest everyone immediately. Acuna would be the one I would sit the last 2 if we clinch tonight. 7 days off his knee would be great for him.

Magic number is 2 according to At Bat. Guess it doesn't factor in tie breaker. To be honest, I don't want a tie. Just win the 2 games

A tie would be even more heartbreaking for the Mets. knowing they lost that tie breaker by being swept and losing 6-7 against us down the stretch.

Let's assume strider is good to go for playoffs...
Fried is game 1. Who do you use for game 2? Do we prefer strider or wright to pitch at home?

That was genuinely great baseball despite being imprisoned in the ESPN broadcast.

Their Sunday night baseball coverage is awful.
