GDT 10/29/21: Braves vs Astros - World Series Game 3

The streak's alive.

Tornado Tom was good last night. The only issue I had was the Rosario check swing strike 3 that wasn’t even close and he didn’t appeal to the 3rd base umpire.

Fortunately, the Umps haven’t decided a game yet, but it would be nice to give the Astros a reason to complain for at least one game.

Dylan Lee getting the start tonight

I know the Smyly contract has long proven itself as a dud, but he’s literally below replacement level as evidenced by a 27 year old rookie non prospect pitcher taking his turn.

AA had a near perfect year, but the bad fruits of the Rich Rod trade and Drew Smyly signing are rearing their ugly head in this series.

You do realize Lee is just an opener and Wright or Drew will be bulk guys when it is time to deploy them. Was the Dodgers series to far back for you to remember

Cheeky, I definitely remember. I am not expecting Lee to pitch more than one inning, but typically your opener is opposite handed to your bulk pitcher.

Either way, my general point stands. We didn’t pay Smyly 11 million to maybe pitch as a bulk pitcher and Richard Rodriguez in theory would have been the exact type of pitcher we could have used as an opener.

Clearly. But stros don’t deploy platoon advantages. So it really doesn’t matter. Just use drew and Wright when appropriate and we will be fine.

The reason I wouldn't use the pen in the regular season like we did last night is that it would be tough to sustain over 162 games. But the way Snit handled the staff last night was 100% how you do it to maximize winning an individual game which was exactly what he needed to do.

We now no longer need to worry about saving our pen. At the end of the series we need to have squeezed everything we can out of it.

I agree. The incentives for regular season and the postseason are different.

We might be saving Smyly for Game 5, gonna have to do b2b openers.
