GDT 10/31/21: Braves vs Astros - World Series Game 5

Just an all time boneheaded move. I'm trying to think of an advantage the Braves gain by leaving Davidson in there. Maybe one more inning?

There is no advantage.
He was lucky to get two out of him and only give up 2 runs.
I mean think about it.
We just pitched a guy that hasn’t been on a mound in the league since June and we let him hit or should I say strikeout and face two batters.
That’s the kinda move that can change a series.
I pray the boys bail Snit out tonight

Anyone remember the Andrew Jones walkoff walk game against the Mets in 1999?

As I recall, we scored five in the first only to see the Mets chip away and tie it after a few innings. This is eerily similar to that. Let's just hope the game has the same result.

Unfortunately we’ve woken up the Astros with a bad managerial decision, piss poor defense and the inability of our pitchers to throw strikes.

If you forget the sequence of events…

4-4 after 3 innings when we know the key to victory is make it to 6th… we all would have signed up for that.

Need to SMASH Valdez this inning. This will be our last chance to tag him.

You want a few people to die of a heart attack?

Is Smoltz a dinosaur for saying, "I've never seen a strikeout score a run?"

I guess the counter to that would be "I've never seen a strikeout hit into a double play."

What Smoltz said is why you want high strikeout pitchers. A ball put into play can find a hole. A K can't.

Like your optimism.

Except they feel like they got a 2nd life while there's tension on our side that we blew it.

If we were told it'd be tied or Braves ahead going to the 4th with Davidson pitching, we'd take it.

Agree on it being a bad decision to waste the ab. Let Fried hit if you don't want to waste a real bat.

It needed to be Minter in that 2nd inning. If he goes 2 or 3 scoreless, you have multiple chances at adding on runs. And then you can steal an inning or 2 with one of your weaker pitchers.

Needed to be Minter, IMO, because there were two on with no outs and putting out that fire was important.

You're absolutely right that scoring runs might give you lower leverage opportunities later, but it's unlikely you'd have a higher leverage spot to start off one of those guys than the one Chavez stepped into.
