I do miss the old days of a very simple 4 team playoff and one wild card winner. Mets won 100 games and have to rely on beating an 89 win team to advance. Fortunately it doesn't impact us this year and in fact we actually get a favorable draw out of it. MLB playoffs just so many issues. Frankly even last year, sort of comical that the 88 win Braves hosted the 106 win Dodgers in the NLCS and it arguably made the world of difference. Ironic these past two years with all the changes that in each year the Braves have been the biggest beneficiary. But it frustrates me because we were an epic final 5 game stretch away from having to be a 100 game winner that could go down to a team that didn't even win 90 games.
Would never happen, but WC round should reseed by record, and for each match-up, there should be some type of "mercy rule" - if the team you'd be scheduled to play is more than [7?] games behind you, they simply don't earn the wild card spot. Mets are over 10 games better than Padres...I could live with the WC round if it was like even 93-94 wins for Padres (ok in that case they are 5-6 games worse than Mets, but at least it means they were really good...)
The problem is baseball playoffs have always been random - but at least it meant something to make it. It was really F'n hard and it was at least randomness limited for the most part to really freaking good teams. Now its randomness with mediocre teams that have no business being in playoffs.
Just thankful we get to sit back and watch it all play out!!
