That general welfare clause is the source of most of the evil **** government does. Freedom isnt the ability to just make the perceived "right" choice.

a lot of things we take for granted (eg interstate highway system, parks, environmental and food safety laws) come under the umbrella of promoting the general welfare

And none of those things are worth what the government has done using the general welfare clause. The constitution is virtually meaningless. It can and is twisted to fit whatever bias a person has and thats not exclusive to left or right. The constitution was supposed to limit government but in reality they use it to expand their power. Many judges do actively consider how their opinions will effect their future. Judges who dont rule in the governments favor arent likely to get appointed to a higher court. There are almost no judges who are appointed that have any real experiene as a defense lawyer. Its always prosecutors that get appointed.

I like all of those things. I think some weapons restrictions are reasonable. I can still realize there's no chance the General Welfare clause was intended to give the federal government carte blanche, and that the Second Amendment was written by private citizens who owned cannons.

The entire document was written by men who were afraid of a powerful centralized government, to restrain a government from becoming either too centralized or too powerful. The prostration to the General Welfare clause that we've seen ignores all of that. It essentially renders the rest of the document null and void. It is intellectually dishonest.

then we have been intellectually dishonest from the start...Jefferson commissioned a group of explorers to find out what lay out west...seems like an extra constitutional power grab absent the general welfare clause...then los federales spent a lot of money building canals and waterways...again a power not specified under the constitution other than as a way to provide for the general welfare...more recently we went to the moon just simply because we are a questing people...nothing in the constitution about satisfying our sense of wanderlust

The problem i .centralizing everything does the exact opposite of promoting the general wellfare. there is a reason everything DC touches go to ****.

So by this logic it is unconstitutional due to hurting the general welfare
