GDT #13, 4/14/'14: Braves (Santana) vs Philthies (Hernandez); Still no CJ

Avilan was awarded the win. He became the first pitcher to be credited with a win despite allowing at least five earned runs while pitching an inning or fewer since Jack Knott of the 1934 St. Louis Browns against the Philadelphia Athletics.

That is because most managers would have at least made a trip to the mound to calm him down before he blew the 4 run lead.

There was 1 out and 6-6> 9-6; amirte?

He didn't know he was going to give up a grand slam. He was going against a guy that has been an absolute black hole for over a year. Walking him would have been absurd. You have to make Uggla swing there. He connected with a pitch. That doesn't happen often with Uggla anymore.

It happens when you throw sliders to a guy with slider speed bat. Don't lose the game on your 2nd best pitch. Diekman couldn't find the zone with fastballs or sliders, Im sure he has an easier time finding the zone with his fastball.

wish you would give up with your constant bashing....go to your teams board if you can find one..

In his defense it's not constant... it's just impulsive.

In all honesty I wouldn't want a board where you have to agree with one opinion across the board. That's what Scout became when Patio took over. Yes some opinions here can be over the top but it's still better than not being able to voice your opinion at all.

I'll take 20 Fredi bashers over 1 Patio any day.

What makes this board great is difference of opinion and people attacking each other's opinion to where you have to defend it.

A perfect example is, gilesfan says he's not a Nationals fan. We all attack him because his posts imply otherwise, but he doesn't feel the need to defend it.

But he was actually throwing strikes with his slider (not good strikes mind you). He wasn't even close with any of his fastballs. I just think he was going to lose the game no matter what. Not that it would have happened anyway but Simmons laced the ball against him in the next AB.

Right.

But who honestly thought Uggla was going deep there, answer: nobody.

He's the last guy you want up with the game on the line.

He hit a mistake and it went out, **** happens.

Even still, you dont walk Uggla to face Simmons.

No one is saying to walk Uggla. Someone is saying you don't go after Uggla with your second best pitch when your best pitch is also the batters weakness. Uggla doesnt have the bat speed to catch up to a 97 mph heater.

You guys act like Uggla has no power and it's a huge shock that he hit a homer (despite hitting one earlier). It's not like Laird hit a homer.

The kid tried throwing fastballs all inning. He might have thrown 1-2 strikes that weren't swings by our team. He had no shot to throw it for strikes. He wanted to force the Braves to beat him and thats what Uggla did.

Why does gilesfan continue to pretend to be a Braves' fan? I honestly get tired of reading his stuff...where's the ignore button?

Isn't there a rule in the books that allows the official scorer to give the win to someone else when the pitcher otherwise in line for it is particularly ineffective? It came up in the Wengert-Ligtenberg-Mulholland nuclear disaster against the Mets in 2000; Benitez was given the win instead of the reliever we smacked around in the eighth inning.

Thought it only applied when the starting pitcher didn't last 5 innings. Think it's cut and dried after that.

I asked this earlier. Go to my name, click on my profile and hit ignore.

Can't we all get along with ignoring?!?!

We might be the only message board in the history of the internets that people want to put others on ignore in the midsts of a 4 game winning streak.
