GDT #14, 4/16/'14: Braves (Teheran) vs Philthies (Lee)

3 of 10 is pretty average throwing out runners. Not bad at all. 40% is Yadi Molina territory. It's hard to throw out runners.

And the least important part of catcher defense. Framing and blocking pitches >>>>>>> throwing out runners.

Perhaps I must give Julio more credit. I had Cliff Lee shutting us out 1-0.

I knew Julio was good, but this was impressive.

What makes this all the more impressive, to me, was that Lee was on his game tonight. Both pitchers with complete games... doesn't happen often anymore.

SSS with Gattis. HR is prob in out in at least 50% of parks, prob in ATL. 2 of the other 3 this were kinda junky (evens out IMO b/c he's crushed some outs earlier).

I like that he seems to be swinging at mostly strikes. He's not going to walk a lot, but I don't see him hacking at bad pitches as much.

You said it....this is the perfect spot for Gattis now. Pitcher who throws strikes all of the time and will challenge him in a tiny park.

The wind was blowing in at 20mph.....that ball would have been 15 rows deep on a normal day and a HR in every single park in America. put down the weed.

The wind was killing the ball tonight. On a normal night that ball he hit tonight is 10 rows in. But, he still clearly has major flaws. His power is just awesome though.

Amazing to see us win w/o getting much of anything from our first 4 hitters.

Wonder if Heyward and BJ will break out the bunts to see if Burnett can field his position with the back issues.

J Hey is bordering on bring benched.

After two weeks? Yeah he's not getting many hits right now but his 167 BABIP is horribad and has nowhere to go but up. Also Heyward is among the elite defensively in the outfield and should stay in the lineup for that reason alone. I would say he needs to go lower in the lineup if he doesn't get it going by the weekend.

I didnt see the game but giving up 10-11 hits isnt great, no?

Or maybe some of his was bad luck given the weather.
