GDT #16, 4/18/14: Braves (Harang) @ Mets (Niese) 7:10 PM;Heyward out, Simmons LEADOFF

If you guys want a laugh, i was watching some of the Nats game.

FP said Desmond will win a gold-glove real soon, has he heard of this Simmons guy, or even Tulo?

Well Desmond did turn down a contract extension so I suspect FP believes he will sign somewhere in the AL. Because that's the only way he will win a gold glove.

Still not sold on Harang. I'm glad and pleasantly surprised at how well he has pitched, but I still don't trust or like the guy. The fact of the matter is throughout the career he has been garbage and at age 35 don't expect it to change. We've found lightning in a bottle for a few starts, but I expect thunder to follow.

All we can do is ride it as long as it lasts and hope Minor pitches well and Floyd does alright when he comes back.

He wasn't the only one. And his own list of people questioning the move he had

Braves1976
Millwood1fan

NinersSBChamps

I didn't fact check but Millwood1Hitter was the biggest one against the move. Called Harang garbage, etc.

There were a few others too initially, but it's true that I questioned the move at the time. But it should be noted I admitted I was wrong after he did well his first few starts. I also gave Wren and co. props for the move then too.

That said, another great game again by Aaron Harang tonight. Good win, so close to a no hitter too (though there was an out call wrongly early on at first one inning). I hope we sweep the Mets to pay them back for the last series in Atlanta.

Now for a list of people who loved the move...

I was less against Harang and more pro Freddy.

Aaron has never been this good usually when we play against him we havr a field day.

Obviously now I don't regret it but the braves find more and more ways to surprise me in a good way

Of course you shouldn't be sold on him. He has a 144 BABIP against and 90.5% LOB rate. Both numbers that are ridiculously out of the norm.

Not what is being. Just that he would be better the Me Make Pitch.

I figured it was possible. I don't remember being adamantly opposed to it, because I knew Freddy was garbage. But, it struck me as odd at the time. I guess the scouts really saw something.

I didn't love the move but this was my post

"Not sure I get cutting Garcia, but Harang is better. JMO

Last 2 years Freddie has been total butt. combined 0.6 fWAR. Harang same time frame was 2.0.

That said both are trending very very down. both are just off their arguable worst season ever so neither is likely very good. Harang though is potentially better as an innings eater and as maybe a better overall pitcher too."

Lulz, are people really gonna act like they knew Harang was going to be this good??

I watched Harang last year pitch for Seattle and the NY Mets, he was quite bad IMO. But so far this year he's not choking at key times in the game. So far he's making big pitches to get out of jams. Plus he is getting away with more meatballs, hangers, everything is going right for him. But I gotta give him credit, Harang is really making pitches when it matters. Great work by him and I certainly didn't expect how great he's done so far.

Also, I'll say again as I did after his first two solid starts. Props to Wren and co. (including our scouts) for the move to sign him.

But his xFIP is basically right where it's expected. ANd he's been great so far in Atlanta aside from HR luck. sitting at a 2.74 FIP.
