I expect to see a completely different Braves team out there tonight. If not, we might start worrying.

This team needs more Justin Upton silently kicking ass, and less...whatever they are doing now. This might a symptom of the absence of guys like Flowers and Markakis.

I think you may be right, but those two guys sucked according to just about everyone here. Talent usually prevails and while I don't think the Braves are as talented as they looked in last year's shortened season, they are better than what they look like right now. They just appear to be in the doldrums and maybe some veteran Lairdership would help. You almost have to be trying not to hit to only get 1 hit over 14 innings.

I am shocked that a hardcore analytic guy as yourself would bring this up, but I think it might prove to be a good point

I think there’s a definite balance between the human side and the numbers side, which is why I can tolerate all the dumb things Snit does after I have a few minutes to calm down. He has proven beyond all doubt to be a capable leader of athletes.

When I see things like guys encouraging Riley to pimp a bloop single, or taking a selfie on first base after hitting a bomb while your team is in last place and your OPS is that of a pitcher, I just wonder how serious guys are about correcting course.

Where is the story about a closed door players only meeting? Where is the story of 4 guys getting together for extra rounds of BP? Is this roster full of guys out there having a good time, and other guys too reserved to say anything about correcting course?

I don’t know, but it seems to me this “aww shucks get them next time, but sick necklace bro”, narrative needs to change to “get them right now” soon.

Lots of things changed but the most telling IMO is the lack of competition and seriousness on the field. Like you stated the selfie and the dance when you hit a bomb just doesnt play right. The poses and chats when two players from opposing teams meet at 1st base looks like a HS Reunion.

On the latter, that is a common thing around pro sports now though.

The NBA, MLB, etc. Its everywhere.

I'd say a big part of the game feeling less competitive is the overcommercialization of the business and push to maximize every penny.

Part of it is just sportsmanship and another part of it is just players realizing the game has become just a business so their loyalties stay to that.
