GDT -- 3/1/18-- split squad-- home game

Newk's first inning...

Rocket to 1B for an out.
Routine grounder to 1B for an out.
Sharp grounder to 2B for an out.

Seems like he has the breaking ball working and the fastball is wrangled under control just enough so far.

The first 2 hitters for Detroit never walk, so they were good match ups for Newk.

I wouldn’t be opposed to Newk being a AAA pitcher to start the year. He sometimes seems lazy and thinks his stuff should get folks out. He needs to deserve a spot IMO.

Newk's second inning:

Long HR to LF
Line drive HR to LF
K looking (fastball at 95 according to announcers)
Pop up to RF
K looking (announcers said the change was good and was swung on and missed, fastball on outside corner at 94)

It can. But he literally looks like he just goes up there with no plan or clue.

A frequent problem for the ultra talented. Their natural ability allows them to succeed without having to develop good work habits. When they hit a point that their talent alone can't carry them they struggle. At this point they either develop the habits necessary for success or settle for mediocrity.

When you have ultra talent paired with extremely good work habits, you get guys like Chipper.
