GDT--3/18 vs Astros

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then.

I'm not against Swanson being good, or even excelling. I just don't think he'll ever be a constant plus hitter. Not with all of his right foot movement.

Right foot movement? You mean where it darts back/sideways towards the dugout as he balances after his swing? Like Jose Altuve's? Mike Trout's? Kris Bryant's? Clint Frazier's? Mickey Mantle's? Roberto Clemente??? It's not a conventional movement. But as evidenced above, has nothing to do with how good he could be. It's called a 'scissor kick'.

Hmmkay.

Acuna has only Kd 8 times in 52 PAs this spring. That's really, really impressive for a young power hitter. Over 600 PAs, that projects to less than 100 Ks.

I don't think it's realistic to expect that trend to continue, but it sure would be nice. I think he will be able to sustain a slightly higher than average BABIP, because of his speed, and as Encheff surmised in another thread, the skill to have enough strength to have a "miss hit" drop in when a lesser hitter with the same contact might to clear the infielders. Add that in with his power, and a K rate that low would result in some eye-popping stats.

It's possible that rate is for real. His K rate dropped after each promotion last year. In 243 PAs at AAA his K rate was 19.8%. Over 600 PAs that would equal about 119 Ks.

Also, on the radio they discussed today how he takes big cuts on his first two strikes but shortens it up with 2 strikes on him.

It's entirely possible Acuna won't be a huge K machine.

It’s the spring. You can’t project numbers. He’s only facing real mlb pitchers a portion of the time. Some are just working on things vs trying 200 percent to get him out.

My thoughts are more on tucker in lf. Could he be legit good? Not spring numbers good but 2 war good? If so maybe a hot start by tucker could get us out of the markakis starting infinite loop of failure

Acuna is facing a lot of the same pitchers our other guys and other team guys are facing. I am shocked at how well he is doing. I really thought he would struggle this spring trying to press and show his talent. Instead he is making the case a for the best player if the Grapefruit League and maybe in both.

do I hear 95

Here’s our path from 72 wins to 95 wins...

Teheran +2.5 wins

Newcomb +2

Albies +2

Swanson +3

Acuna +3.5

McCarthy +3

Gohara +2

Camargo +2

Minter +1

Inciarte +1

Markakis +1

No regression from us at all. We go forward, not backwards

It is just spring but as I said earlier, his K rate dropped as he moved up last year. It was 19.8% in AAA over 243 PAs. This spring, his K% has been 15.4%. So the K rate being real isn't too far fetched. At the very least it's an encouraging sign that he wont be a strikeout machine.
