GDT #3 April 2, 2014 Braves @ Brewers

Uggla's early form is the best piece of news this team has had so far this year. Still want to release him?

Clearly I was wrong on this one. Its early but I've never been more happy in my life to be wrong.

It is very early on Uggla. But I think many people put too much weight on his second half 2013 performance. His first half hitting was not bad and seems to have been completely forgotten. To me it was a case of putting too much weight on half a season. The usual small sample size trap. But there is no doubt Uggla's baseline has been in decline in recent years. I'm not ready to say he is going to be an .800 OPS player. I'd be very happy if he was. But I do think it is realistic to expect a .700-.750 OPS and it was realistic to expect that even before the past two games.

Even as someone, somewhat pro-Fredi i dont get why BJ is 2nd.

I dont mind CJ ahead of JUp either.

People don't appreciate the fact that Laird/Fredi has kept us in contention so far in spite of losing most of our pitching.

Who kept Wood in during the seventh inning last night in spite of my clamoring for Carpenter? Laird/Fredi did.

Who brought in Schlosser to face Weeks in the first game, ignoring my advice to keep Thomas in there? Laird/Fredi did.

So far he's done a fantastic job this year, and only extremely biased people would say otherwise.

The guy catches for us every third game and manages every night. He's also writing the great American novel in his spare time. And he does all that for a small salary. Very underrated and underappreciated.

Yeah I don't get the Laird hate. The guy is a solid backup C but is a great student of the game. He could very well be a manager one day if he wanted to.

It's two games into the season. It's way to soon to be sayin Uggla is fine. Absolutely it's a better sign that he knows what baseball is compared to BJ right now.

I wonder who will pay more dividends for their new team in 2014: Garza or Harang?
