Not a fan of how he has started but this is a tough game to evaluate any pitcher.

I agree. I just doubt he's gonna go 6 with 3 runs or less today. Quintana didn't look amazing in that first inning either though

Hes thrown quite a few non-competitive pitches. THats my only gripe with him. If you are giong to walk guys then fine. But don't throw pitches that are 6-10 inches off of the plate as often as Newk does. If he can correct that then the sky is the limit.

Case in point. Three pitches were completely non-competitive against Zobrist. Newk needs to be around the zone. THe stuff is so good guys will swing.

Despite the homer and the jammed double, I didn't think Newcomb was awful that inning given the conditions. He was using his changeup a lot more which is very encouraging to see.
