GDT 4/15/22: Braves@Padres - Getting on the Wright track

This may be common knowledge to everyone else, but for those of you with MLB.tv, you can switch the audio feeds so that you watch the game and listen to the Braves radio broadcast. They sync the game up perfectly for you. I’ve been doing it for the last week and love listening to Ben and Joe significantly more than Chip and his band of morons.

I know he wasn't 'ready' the last two years but we should have pushed Wright into the rotation for a long time now.

Hopefully the poor management or his poor mental makeup now will work out well for the Braves with service time considerations.

This kid has all the stuff to be a TOR arm.

Wright’s prospect graduation blurb from FG: “ Wright's fastball movement causes the pitch to play below its velocity, and it's unclear if that and his loose command are fixable as he exceeds rookie eligibility.”

They are talking about the flatness of his 4 seamer, which I thought was being addressed with the increased usage of his superior sinker in his first start. Unfortunately, he reverted to using mainly the 4 seamer in his most recent start.

So far it looks like he’s improved the execution of his pitches until he tires around the 80 pitch mark. That and figuring out the optimal pitch mix is something worth watching, but all the pieces for another 2/3 SP are there.

On the broadcast, they talked about him using primarily two pitches first time through the order and switching to the other two second time. I wasn't paying close attention, so I don't know if that actually holds up.

Last night they did a Hosmer/Olson comparison over the past few years… showed Hosmer had like a .740 OPS and Olson something like .850

Brian Jordan: their OPS is very close
