GDT 4/15/26: Braves vs Marlins - Tax Day Baseball

Gotta love early season baseball stats. If someone told you Elder, Holmes, Lopez, and Sale produced the following stat lines after 4 starts each I'm guessing everyone would put them in the exact opposite order.

23.1 IP, 0.77 ERA, .245 xwOBA, 0.6fWAR
21.2 IP, 3.32 ERA, .286 xwOBA, 0.3 fWAR
20.2 IP, 2.18 ERA, .310 xwOBA, 0.1 fWAR
22.0 IP, 3.27 ERA, .315 xwOBA, 0.1 fWAR

The fact all 4 have thrown 20+ innings is the truly good news. The first couple weeks could not have gone any better given how rough things were going in ST.

If the last 10 years has taught me anything its that if you fanatically believe something, no matter how stupid it is, it might come true. So Bryce Elder for Cy Young. Thats the bandwagon I am riding. Also birds arent real.

There's really three things with Elder: he finally has his slider shape back, his command has been much improved and he's able to use the cutter to keep lefties off balance and limit damage. He's still a No. 4 or 5, but this change seems to be fairly legit.

Terry Pendleton mentored Chipper.

One day Elder will carry forward the tradition of passing the torch to the next generation of great Braves.

Just as Bobby did with Snit and Snit did with Weiss

Well Bobby also mentored Weiss too when he was a player. Weiss mentioned he was already on the tail end of his career when he was with us and he was constantly picking Bobby's brain.

I mean Bobby defended his players like no manager I've seen until Weiss form tackled Soler. Already the 2nd best manager the Braves have ever had.
