GDT 4/20: Holmes is the Easter Beagle

We won in 21 without Ronald. Out of curiosity what would a package look like with 3 years left?
To say we won in 21 without Ronald is disingenuous and only a half truth. He carried us the entire first half while the rest of the team, including Freeman, was sucking. We don’t win it without him.

Also, we were a good team in the 2nd half, but we also benefited from being in a piss poor division. You’re foolish if you want to count on any of that stuff happening again.

As always, the reality is almost certainly some nuanced combination of many factors.

- Acuna has proven time and time again to be a low-IQ player, which probably impacts how his missteps are perceived.
- Acuna is the generational talent of this franchise, and should be leading by example. More Jeter, less Manny.
- Acuna should not be calling out anyone, for anything, publicly like this...more stupidity from him.
- Kelenic is one of the least talented players on the roster, so less is expected of him in all areas.
- Kelenic does not have a reputation for being a low-IQ player, and almost never does stupid things.
- Snit is an old dinosaur boomer from the South, and while not some malicious racist, probably has some unintentional racist tendancies.

So when your top dog is an idiot constantly doing stupid things (what we see on the field is probably a fraction of the stupid things he does daily), you would probably react differently when he fails to run out a fly ball for the 4th time than when a model citizen that doesn't carry much sway in the clubhouse messes up one time.

21 was a perfect storm and AA got extremely lucky in that every one of his moves panned out. That rarely happens like that and I doubt it will again. That said Acuna is my favorite player and don't wanna see him go but in 3 years he's gone. We've already seen it with Freeman, Swanson, and Fried. You can play it out and see him walk or give him a year to show he's healthy and entertain the idea of what he could get you back. Snit and him seeing what everybody else is getting in FA compared to what he is getting will no doubt make him walk.

I don’t personally care that Snit didn’t bench Kelenic. In a vacuum, he handled this incident with JK better than he did with Acuna (or Ozuna, Inciarte, etc.). JK with all his warts, does give a lot of effort and he had a mental lapse. It’s best that this is handled internally and not in the media.

The problem is Snit has never managed Acuna well. Bobby Cox connected with all of his star players (of all backgrounds) and built tremendous loyalty. What this incident revealed is how little progress Snitker made with Acuna in six years. Acuna deserves blame as well. But in the context of what each brings to the organization (MVP production, HOF talent) vs a manager of an underperforming team, it’s fair to question the value of keeping the manager around.

Perhaps a slightly different take…. I suspect that Snit knows that Kelenic is on his way out the door, and isn’t too worried about sending him a message to help him improve.

Ronnie is the opposite. He needs to play smarter and lead by example. Snit being hard on him is not racism. It’s trying to bring out the best of his ability.

JK… ahh, he’s a placeholder who will be gone when Ronnie comes back. He has already given up on him being a future leader of the team.

I don’t know if this is true, but it seems like a plausible scenario.

I still think it will be handled internally, and will blow over pretty quickly.

It isn't about what Twit did or didn't do.. that does matter.. but the bigger issue is how he handled it after the game and since.. lying and trying to brush it off is far worse than just coming out and saying. JK knew what he did was wrong.. we are handling it as a team.. Yes I heard about Ronnie's comments.. I have reached out to him and we are also handling that as a team.. no other comments will be made about this unless the team wants to put a press release out. done.. handled.

We’re still talking about this
First world problems -if this total nothing burger is the best thing we have to bitch about, then things are going pretty well around here- nobody got suspended for PEDs, arrested for self defense with a cast, sent to the DL with forearm tightness, got busted with the sideline reporter in a hotel elevator, etc. I’ll take it!

I don't think it's so much him being racist as it is being old school to the point where you hit a home run and put your head down and run with no show boating. Ronnie is the complete opposite and likes to show boat and I think that is what Snit hates. He likes old school boring baseball and wants it to be that way. Acuna brings fire to the team and he makes it fun to watch. We all know that Snit saw the Kelenic play live but him lying about it just makes it worse.
We don't agree on much, but I think you are on to something. I feel exactly that way about RAJ. Claiming it's race is just jumping to a bad conclusion. It's not RAJ and the Atlanta Braves. It's the Atlanta Braves.

But it wasn't a nothing burger to Ronald. Otherwise he wouldn't have commented. At this point I don't care about Snits bs "I didn't see it" shyt. Man up. Now if you and Ronald squash it..not my business. But it does look like bs whether people bytch about Ronald's antics or not .

It definitely seems like Acuna is still holding a grudge towards Snit.

Agreed: you can blame Acuña some and still believe Snitker deserves way more blame. That’s where I’m at, too.

And, as you note, at least Acuña brings a ton of real value to the franchise (on and off the field). It’s beginning to be unclear what value Snitker provides anymore—whereas, at least in past years, there was the pretext (or canard, if you’re cynical) that he was an even-keel, continuity-preserving “players’ manager,” despite his massive tactical and strategic deficits.

Pretty sure one of the knocks on Kelenic in the past has been his attitude. Not that that makes anything you say less valid, and I agree with all of it.

I don't agree with any of it. I understand the sentiment, but Acuna is like a lot of Latin players in that they play with a verve that's different. Imagine tearing down your best player (when healthy) over homerun pimping. Shut up and dribble I guess. Fk that. Do you Ronald...fk they feelings. Snit in particular. Kelenic been a Prima Donna since Seattle. He shouldn't get the "club treatment" at all.

Acuna has no room to criticize anyone. He has blown out both his knees doing useless shit to feed his ego. He could be a gold glove level defender in RF but doesnt put in the work/effort. He continues playing winter ball despite being injury prone which hurts the team. Biggest mistake we can make is signing him to a new big contract. Second biggest mistake would be not cashing in on him and watching him leave for a 4th round draft pick.
