GDT 4/22/25: Braves vs Cardinals - Blewett at the Beginning

No verdugo today. Eli white instead.
Harris back to leadoff, which i hate.
Ozzie cemented in 5-hole. One of our worst hitters

I've followed Albies since rookie leagues. I've been his most ardent supporter. HOWEVAH..this version of Albies is worst than the rookie league guy. (Hyperpole), but seriously....the 'trade him' brigade has a lot of ammunition. He looks lost....I honestly don't know if he has anyone in his ear that helps him. Hyers....get busy.
Guys like Ozzie benefitted greatly from Wash's tough love act. They needed that. We just don't have that kind of leadership around anymore.

Ozzie just makes too much sense not to move either at the break or in the off season.
I've read this sentence 4 times and I still don't know what it means.

If what it's saying is that Ozzie should be moved at the deadline or next offseason, who replaces him?

That's ultimately the problem, we don't have guys who can play the middle in field. We trotted out Arcia at SS again,

Right now, Ozzie is a solid fielding and solid hitting 2B. His wRC+ is 95 and his defensive metrics are in the average to above average range. He's basically a 2 WAR player. WHich is severely down from his peak. Which is obviously massively down from his past performance when he was a 4-5 WAR player.

But if you just accept he's a 2 WAR player you'll be happier because we're only paying him 7M a year. He's making much closer to what Kelenic and Arcia make than what RIley, Olsen, Acuna, and Ozuna make.

Ozzie only makes sense to trade if we have a hot shot prospect ready to step up because 7M for a 2 WAR player is a good deal in the modern game. The Tigers are paying Gleyber Torres 15M this year, Bryson Stott get 3M in Arb 1.

I don't agree that one person affected Ozzie, and it's much more likely that his game relied heavily on him being a freaky good athlete and now that he's 28 not 22 he's struggling a bit more.

But I do agree that multiple years of the team underperforming means it's time for the coaching staff to go. Especially after the Snit Kelenic thing.

His plate discipline has degraded to the point where he was a perennial all star to replacement level player on average. Wild stuff.

Don't think I've seen a case like it honestly

Power is what gets people paid is what he's thinking. Him hitting .300 with 15-20 HRs would get him paid big though

Ozzie being a 2 win player is your “gotcha” moment? Seriously?

It's not a gotcha moment. I don't understand the logic of trading away a 2 WAR player who we have under contract for 7M a year with no one ready to back them up. Maybe you're gung ho about Nacho Alvarez, I'm not. If Perdomo was in A ball and tearing it up that would be one thing but I don't see the logic or value in trading someone who's worth more than their salary. Just accept Ozzie isn't Ozzie of old, move him down in the lineup and go from there. If he have a fully healthy (and not suspended) lineup then our top 6 hitters should be some organization of Acuna, Profar Riley, Olson, Ozuna and Murphy, then put Harris and Ozzie after them and SS at the end.

It's more concerning when guys like Riley, Olson, or Ozuna aren't performing because we're paying them to perform. Ozzie we signed to a long term contract on a risk and we're dealing with the potential downside of that risk which is him not being as great as he was at 22.

You’re seriously taking a victory lap?

How many times I gotta tell y'all that Ozzie will be fine, before you stop saying he sucks?

The main gripe you all have about him is his ability to hit RHP. Well coming into today, he was hitting RHP to the tune of .254/.333/.448 (pretty close to career averages). This issue so far is his .469 OPS vs LHP this year. Do you honestly think a guy with a career OPS vs LHP of .914 has all of a sudden forgotten how to hit them?

He'll likely put up his usual .750+ OPS and 3-4 WAR by the end of the year, assuming he stays healthy.
