GDT 4/23/21 Dbacks@Braves 7:20 Acuna is back!

In the last week or so the bullpen seems to have at least one walk per inning. Maybe hyperbole but we're walking too many.

What exactly do we have in Ynoa? His ERA predictors are all over the map (which isn't surprising given the small sample size), his BABIP against is way low, but his HR/FB ratio is probably a bit higher than likely. Some regression is likely coming, but if keeps the walks in check, the eyeball test just shows him absolutely dominating for 3-4 inning stints or longer at times.

If he continues pitching relatively well, I could see Ynoa getting 20+ starts this season. It seems likely that at least one of Soroka, Fried, Morton and Smyly will be on the IL at any given time.

If - a BIG if, of course - he truly has harnessed that slider, I don't see why he can't be a solid #3/#4 with the opportunity to completely shut someone down on those days when everything's clicking (think Newk's start against the Dodgers). There's no questioning the stuff and he's got the extra gear he can reach back for when he needs it. I don't think it's a big stretch to think he's got more upside than either Wright or Wilson, and he's certainly had the longest stretch of sustained "success" of that group so far.

I'm all about hanging onto all the arms for depth in what's going to shake out to be a really strange season, but if they're willing to bring up Davidson/De La Cruz/Muller as piggyback types if things get really off the rails, I'm also all about including Wright in a deal that nets anything of legitimate value - I just don't think Wright's ever going to take the step everyone's waiting for him to take.

He looks downright studly. Command has been impressive, fastball touches 99, and of course the slider has been incredible.

I think if everybody gets healthy, somebody else goes to the pen. He's earned a job.

I dunno about that. He’s definitely put in good work but like everyone he can only pitch so many innings this year. RHP is also a major weakness in the bullpen. He may be best utilized in relief as the year goes on.

At least you tried harder than our freaking boys did.
It’s not your fault. They took that rainout last night and went to the damn clairmont lounge with Kelsey. No other explanation.
