GDT 4/23 Max and the Sunday Slump Busters!!!

Personally, I will always regret the Freeman/Olson deal. Freddie being my favorite Brave or this generation obviously has me biased.

But with what we gave up in prospects, plus the extension, i'd have much rather have paid Freeman what he wanted. Who knows? Maybe we could have used the prospects to get someone else, like Reynolds...

Doesn't matter now. Hope AIDs can fix his swing quick....with as long as that swing is, he is always going to be prone to slumps and tons of strikeouts.

I'm old and can get pretty bloodless about the whole thing. I loved Freeman and loved watching him, but I pretty much thought he was gone when he hit free agency and accepted that. I thought Olson and Rizzo were going to be the likely candidates to replace him and I think the acquisition cost on Olson matched his short-term projection.

I just didn't agree with the extension. Olson isn't particularly athletic and I don't see his swing aging well. Of course, I'm writing this after a week or so of scuffling on his part and he could go out an hit a boatload of HRs in the next couple of weeks. I think his power numbers will hold up for a few more years for the simple reason he's unbelievably strong and generates a lot of opposite field power; great leverage and launch angle. At his worst, he's probably Adam Dunn who can field for the next couple of seasons.

Olson and his long swing is always going to be a concern. His swing and miss in the zone might be more related to tweaks they made this off season.. might be swinging over the ball too much. But Olson and Riley are swinging less at pitches in the zone than ever before. Maybe early season not recognizing pitches.. maybe some sort of philosopy the team is telling them.. who knows, but it needs to revert back to normal cause pitchers are getting ahead of these guys and then controling the at bat from there.
