I was obviously joking about the MVP stuff, but he’s been solid. You’ll get a .240 batting average, 20ish homers, and solid defense. Not sure he’s worth his pay but he’s been pretty good.

Look, I'm a simple man. I don't ask for much. A good cheeseburger every once in a while. The politicians I support winning every election. A comfy bed. Cy's mom in that bed. Videogames of such staggering complexity and depth that they make me forget the disappointments of the real world. Designer drugs. A soft, comfortable hoodie. French toast with just the right amount of gooey-ness.

And now, just this year, just this once, I'd like the Braves to put the division to bed by my birthday in a week and a half. I don't think this is an unreasonable request.

Easy to look back in hindsight. But I don't believe any of us would have been comfortable with the 7 years the Cubs gave him, nor do I have any belief the Braves would have come close to matching that contract. I'm sure we would have all been comfortable with the first half of the contract but the backend could be ugly.

We'll see, but I'll always root for Swanson. I do wish we could have found a way to keep him.
