GDT 4/24/26: Braves vs Phillies - Interesting Lineup Adjustment

You can write off anyone in April. But, man. The Phillies just look bad and old.

They won't do it, but they should sell at the deadline. Wheeler would be able to bring back a strong package if he can prove he's still a TOR starter. Realmuto might bring back a solid prospect or 2. Luzardo and Duran too.

If this keeps up the division could over in a month. Strider, Waldrep, SS2x Murphy, and Kim all coming back makes it even worse on everybody else. AA did a great job on depth this offseason.

Don't forget we have to trade someone to the DL to compensate.
With 3 SP coming back I'd send Holmes and Lopez both to the BP to cut down on innings and strengthen the BP. Fuentes should no doubt be a weapon coming out of the BP in the 2nd half if the rotation is completely healthy. Farmer and Mateo will probably get sent down when Murphy and Kim get back.

Do you think they keep Heim over Mateo?

It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Think they have a harder time trading folks. JT is basically market value Harper has 5-120+ after thus years 27. Wheeler might not be healthy the rest of the year. TOS is hard to come back from. Schwarb and turner are under water big time

Even if they get a few prospects, they have a long way to go to build anything respectable. Dark times headed their way.

Yeah the Phillies are looking old and Bohm is terrible. They have a lot of issues over there and they won't be able to out spend them bc they had to much locked in already.

I think they're living proof of pressure from the fan base leads to making bad decisions. That Realmuto deal was dumb along with Nola deal....They should have backed the truck up for Suarez.

JT was just a FA and no one wanted to give him the 3/45 he got…not even the Phillies. They just had no choice.

They should def trade Duran but Luzardo just signed a long term deal so he almost definitely won’t be dealt.

I don’t see anyone of much value on their roster. If Wheeler looks good then he would because teams would love to have him for the playoffs. But he and Duran are about it.

They aren't trading Harper unless he asks to be traded. JT is still a starting caliber Catcher. He isn't bringing back a ton, but he should be able to bring back a couple of prospects in some teams top 15. Wheeler is definitely a question mark.

Careful, there’s a carefully crafted narrative at stake here that AA did nothing.😀
I recall the narratives being:

1). He signed guys to market value deals so that makes it an average offseason
2). He didn’t sign a SP so that makes it bad.

For point 1, I think it’s just objectively wrong. Kim was below market. Dubón trade was below market. And sure, Iglesias and Suarez may have been market value. But they’re smart, low-risk market value deals. And suring up the backend of the bullpen is pretty important.

I was annoyed he didn’t acquire a starter. But all of those backend guys some of us wanted have been shit. Elder and Holmes have been way better than Bassitt. And so I think AA wanted a clear TOR arm or nothing, because the internal options were as good or better than the backend options. I didn’t want cease for his deal or Suarez for his, which leaves trades, and no one big got traded this offseason.
