GDT 4-24: Strider is the STOPPER.

He started rough but Jimenez has been awesome lately.

He has a 2.25 ERA/3.19 FIP this season, striking out almost 12 per 9 innings.
 
yeah, Hilliard is just a new toy and when that shine wears off, we will all probably hate him too... but right now he is new and you can't have him.
 
Hilliard is an excellent 4th outfielder to have on your roster. Hopefully if/when they find a permanent LF, Hilliard can stick around

Exactly. Probably not good enough to start for an extended period of time, but has enough lightning in his bat that he can get hot during a starter's IL stint. As someone who clearly remembers Darren Bragg and Ryan Langerhans, this holds a lot of value.

When looking at stats like xwoba I'd rather look at baseball savant. Hillard is rocking 372 xWOBA there.
 
I like to imagine Kent Mercker watching every Braves game with a bottle of champagne at his side, gleefully popping it after the first hit allowed.

And over .500 xSlug on Savant compared to .361 xSlug on Fangraphs. Seriously, how does Fangraphs have his xSlug so low when he has an EV over 93?
 
I know it was done within the game, but this thread really needs to be more about Strider than Hilliard.

What a blessing from no where this guy is. 4th rounder who is right now the best pitcher in the game..

His savant page from last nights game is just fun to go through. Marlins swung at 65 of his 101 pitches and only made contact on 34 of them.. only 5 of those where hit hard... 5 of 101 pitches were hit hard. That is elite. He only used his change 3 times and it missed 2 of those 3. I think he is still trying to get a feel for that pitch, but hasn't needed it. I am telling you if he figures that pitch out, the league is done.

I would imagine it's just FG not having the most up to date information. Looking at prior years for Hillard the xWOBA lines up with what savant has. Since savant is going to be the original source of most of the advanced data I just go there unless I want to look at league rankings.
