GDT 4-26: Eli White Redemption Day

I would have used Suarez in the tie game last night. You know, use the best BP arm in a high leverage scenario. Standard leverage considerations.

Or is that too complicated for you to understand without me spelling it out?
So 5 times in 7 days? He'd be dead by June.

Enscheff's bullpen plan is to not only warm up every RP every night (because warm ups don't count), but also throw our best reliever every time we have a high leverage situation.

Enscheff better hope we already have Billy Wagner, Mike Remlinger, Mark Melancon, and Tyler Matzek ramping up to give us some relief help in the 2nd half of the season because the rest of the pen will have their arms amputated by July.

Yup, that's what I said.

Or...Walt could have not used him in a lower leverage situation over those 7 days and then used him in the tie game. You know...basic BP leveraging.

It should be mentioned that Walt is doing better with Suarez as the season progresses though. Iggy/Suarez/Lee now clearly have the highest leverage usage when they enter the game. At the end of the day that's all we can reasonably ask of Walt. He is, without question, better than Snit.

Other than last night, he has exclusively been used in high leverage situations since 4/7. What games have you been watching?

i think the point was he didn't use him sat (high leverage) but saved him for sun which turned out to not be high leverage and just got him wok because today is an off day

unless there is something we don't know, he should have been available saturday

I'm glad you added that last paragraph for clarity.

It's okay to complain about apparent tactical mistakes as they happen while still acknowledging what seems to be major improvement over the previous manager. No manager is going to get every decision right.

Walt has won me over.

He isn't gonna be super analytical and such. But he seems to be using enough analytics and strategy to be 100x better than Snit did in the same situations.

And he has the respect of the clubhouse and managing that aspect of it so far so good as well.

I was pissed at AA for staying in-house. But the things I've read about him embracing the modern game a bit more and still having some reserved tendencies where old school gut can help, make me very confident about it.

I agree. Walt has room to improve with handling bullpen leverage.

It’s hard to evaluate this without complete knowledge of how guys are feeling day to day, but I think we’ve seen enough to suggest it wouldn’t hurt to tweak Suarez and Lee usage patterns so they can be available for scenarios like last Saturday.

I think Weiss has otherwise done a pretty good with in game decision making.
