GDT: 4/3/'17 - Bravos (J.Teheran) @ Mutts (Syndergaard), OPENING DAY! 1PM EST

Let's see...

Freddie's a monster, Julio is good, bullpen is hot garbage, offense may be spotty.

SSS, anyone?

Pretty much as expected only the bullpen looks even worse now that EOF is out of spring training. I don't like our bullpen much at all, if our starting pitching isn't good we could lose a lot early till the bullpen is improved. Plus we have no bench so that's a really bad combo.

That said, Flowers made the same mistake today that I called him out for in spring training a week ago. He positioned himself too far behind the plate costing Inciarte an assist and that accounted for the first run. He did the same thing just a week ago in spring training the exact same way. I thought then he was just not paying attention and not too concerned. But there is no excuse for that mistake again so soon after he made it in spring training.

I don't want to be the Negative Nancy here but... I don't think we're going to make the playoffs.

We can. We just need to tell the front office to get rid of the ugly batting practicesque Navy road uniforms. We need to go back to wearing the road gray's full time.

Calling now: Markakis signing remains low-key disaster.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but I really don't understand why Markakis gets so much hate. He's been a good player for us based on b-ref's stats which I personally prefer. At worst he's lived up to his contract. He's not blocking a prospect, so I just don't get the hate. He's a decent piece to have.

Freeman 3 hits 1 out made. Rest of the team 4 hits 26 outs made. Syndergaard is the best pitcher in mlb in my opinion so I give the rest of the team a break, but Freeman is going to free the beast all over the NL this year.

Also, this pen is bad. Unforgivable bad for a team that wants to contend.

Freeman's been locked in all spring. Julio too....

The pen will be mostly homegrown in the next few years, but it looks rough now

On another note, Julio was terrific, Freeman looks like an MVP-caliber player and in all fairness, we were playing against Syndergaard.

The bullpen needs to nut-up, though.

I totally agree.

In the end it doesn't really matter because the Braves are still rebuilding. However if they were serious about contending in 2017 like they said originally then it would be an issue. It's not that Nick has been bad. I would agree that he's been worth his contract so far. The problem is that a team like the Braves shouldn't really be paying market value for a 1.5 WAR player.
