GDT#4, 4/4/'14: Braves (Hale) @ Nationals (Zimmerman) 1:05 PM

Im getting worried our offense is even more homerun or nothing this year. Depending too much on the pitching as well.

Lets hope that changes soon.

Huh? He's not a huge K guy.

I know. Clearly you value contact from the hitters, yes? I know some people don't mind the feast or famine lineup we have. I prefer a guy who gives the team a chance by putting the ball in play.

A know a lot of people think it's a waste to swing at a borderline pitch just to try to "put it in play." You rob yourself of a chance to walk by swinging at a bad ball trying to sneak one through somewhere. I think we lose the objective of a half-inning when we make the mistake of thinking that a strikeout is different than any other sort of out. "Putting one in play" may net you one run with a runner at third, but playing for one run is a suckers bet, particularly early in the game. An out is an out. You only get three an inning. Get mad when they happen, regardless of whether or not contact is involved...

I think our lineup, feast or famine or not, is good and will produce. I appreciate the consistent hard contact CJ makes because that's his version of production. I think Ks are generally focused on too much, and putting the ball in play is overrated because of the bad things that can happen. Strikeouts can be very frustrating, especially with like a man on 2nd or 3rd. DPs suck too.

Taking out Walden is beyond stupid here. You know with the hole Walden is sick vs. lefties thing.

Fredi running through pitchers in what could easily be an extra innings game.

But he has to figure out a way to pitch Carpenter in the 8th. It is hard work, getting your 8th-inning guy quality 8th-inning work. You only have 162 8th innings in a season.
