GDT 4/7/27 @PIT Folty vs. Nova

Further, why make them play in NY or Pitt at all the first week? Isn't the weather much better in Atlanta this time of year?

Was there question that stadium might not be done yet when schedule was made? Long road trip to open season

I really don't understand why MLB is so insistent on opening up the season with so many games in Northern cities; why are we opening day in NY, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Chicago, Cleveland.

Open up in Texas, San Diego, Miami, Houston, Toronto (dome), Arizona, LA, SF, Tampa, Atlanta..... each of these teams could get a couple home series to start the year.

Yep... makes no sense. Fill the domes and the warm cities. And stop with the nonsensical day off on Tuesday... make them all on Thursday so that each opening series is covered if they have a postponement

We ran into some great pitching in NY and horrible weather in Pitt (why does MLB insist on having so many southern teams go north in early April?) so I think the offense will pick it up some. But we do still have some issues. That pen is horrible. At one point I thought we were shaping up to have a good pen. Getting guys like Withrow and Paco Rodriguez from the Dodgers and having so many guys with nasty stuff. I thought somehow we'd put together a decent pen. But Withrow was non-tendered and Paco released. Boyer face planted. None of the live arms really stepped forward. It's a rough looking pen and I don't have a ton of hope for it getting a lot better as the season goes on. Hopefully Minter gets healthy and gets promoted but he's only one arm.

The bench is another big issue. Emilio Bonifacio needs to be mentoring young players in AAA somewhere.

Phillips has cost us more runs than he's produced today... between the offense and defense... i'd say he's cost us 4 runs

And wow what a double play... is Garcia that slow?

To recap what I've learned from this inning:

BP is amazing.

Adonis Sucks.

The Pirates play great defense in cold weather because they are a northern team, despite spending the last 6 weeks in Florida.
