That's stupid.

It's considered a weak draft. I think most people have said there's a top 3-4 and then guys are pretty similar.

So it's probably:
top 3 pick-get one of the guys the industry agrees is best (still hit rate really low)
Top 10 pick-protected if you sign a FA with a qualifying offer
Everyone else.

11-30 doesn't matter

Not that I agree with Dalyn's perspective but having a worse record gives you a better pick in every round and a higher pool of cash to spend on draftees.
 
I don't believe in tanking in baseball unless there is a big FA you want to target. I have faith that Clark and Co will be able to get impact players regardless of where they pick.

After Upton/Uggla I am in the risk adverse camp in regards to free agency.

Who said anything about tanking? I've already made it clear that's not what I'm talking about.
 
I said this before, but I don't think the FO is as doom and gloom about this year as many people here. I don't want them to try and field a team, EVER, with the hope that they lose. They traded Kimbrel because they got GREAT value for him. When you have the opportunity to sell high, you do it. So they did it.

Having veteran players leading and teaching young guys is a lot different than coaches doing it. That's part of the value of guys like Gomes. When you're trying to build something, I don't think going with any young player just because they're young and not as good is the way to go. This isn't just a lost year in the FO's eyes and it shouldn't be. I don't see us being terrible and I don't want us to be. A slightly higher pick means little to me in the MLB draft. Outside the first round, and even often times in it, teams pick the guy they like better, anyway. We aren't getting the 1st overall pick. If we get 14 instead of 10, it's hardly a big difference. I'd rather the team win and play as many important games as possible.

It's the only justification for wanting to win 70 vs 80.

I'd prefer to win the most games possible. If we can scrap together enough 2-0, 3-1, 4-3 wins with this line up, GREAT

Can't let failures prevent you from going after good players. Keep trying until you get it right. We just have to be smarter with how we spend our money but don't avoid free agency all together.

The point in baseball is that having the 17th pick vs the 25th pick makes no difference. Yes someone could pick a guy you want. But from a data standpoint there is no difference in the chance that that guy makes it to MLB.

Having a bigger pool I get, but it's not a significant difference if you are talking 70 win vs 80. The way to get a bigger pool, and the braves have gone out of their way to do this, is to have more picks.

Free agency is inefficient in my eyes. Just keep developing your guys and trade them before they hit free agency. Just have to keep the minor league system going.

I don't think that's the way to win a championship. I mean I believe you build the core of your team that way but you have to be willing to bring in a difference maker to get you over the top.
