GDT 4/9/22: Braves vs Reds - Contreras behind the dish

This is what I envisioned when I said to not sign a non ace starting pitcher.

Never made sense.

Wright needs to get 20 starts so we can finally close the book on what to do with him. Reds stink so I’m not going to go overboard but I see at least 3 CY Young runner up seasons behind Fried.

The Wright I saw at the very end of the year, in the playoffs, and in ST/tonight is a different Kyle Wright. Hope he keeps it up.

There's a ton of internal hype around him - way more than in the past. Externally, we've heard some praise being thrown around, but internally, there's a lot. One scout - a longtime friend - told me that he's being labeled the Braves' "secret weapon" and that his head is finally "screwed on right." I've also heard the successful Game 4 World Series stint did more for him than most fans realize.

I still wouldnt have minded one just for depth, but yeah, we gotta let Wright sink or swim and see if he's finally figured it out by now.

I really didn't notice contreras catching last night other than trying to frame an incredibly low pitch. This is a good thing... last year, it was terribly obvious when he was catching.

Wright looked great last night - Kept the ball down, and threw his slider for strikes. That's a recipe for success every time. If they can spit on his slider, he's got little else to get outs with.
