GDT 4/9/23: Braves vs Padres - An Easter Treat

Both Ozuna and Rosario will get at least until May to prove they aren’t toast. Y’all better strap in.

I think they should too. Hopefully they can get it going. Rosario did hit the ball well a couple times tonight. I have more faith in Rosario

Well, that was a reality check series. Team is good, but it‘s not going to cruise past 100 wins. There‘s a major dropoff between the frontline talent and the rest of the roster. Dodd and Shuster are AAAA guys (as is Elder) that can take a start against a weak team, but not against a serious contender. Wright and Soroka are question marks. On the offensive side, Ozzie‘s struggles appear to be systematic, not just a slump. And this year, they can‘t blame it on injuries. Rosario is still not seeing the ball, and not making solid contact even when he does happen to hit one. I do have some hope for Ozuna. His approach has been better, he‘s having some good AB. I‘m not expecting the 2020 version, but league average for DH would be very welcome.

Really should have had the 2nd game. Last 2 nights were not competitive, unfortunately.

Ozzie...
.335 xwoba, .248 wOBA; .219 babip

Rosario...
.382 xwoba, .211 wOBA; .267 babip

Ozuna...
.343 xwoba, .245 wOBA ; .000 babip

Perhaps these 3 will have a good week

Ozuna will probably carry a very low Babip.. he either homers (rarely), K's (a lot), Walks (who cares), or weak grounder/popup.. The only thing babip cares about is his weak ass contact on non homer balls.

I don’t think anything we’ve seen should come as much of a surprise considering I’ve been saying it for months…

We knew SS was going to be mediocre.

We knew LF and DH would be a disaster.

We knew Ozzie’s approach has deteriorated.

We knew Shuster, Dodd and Elder were #5/AAAA SPs.

What we didn’t know is that all 3 of those SPs would be in the rotation at once, Iglesias wouldn’t throw a pitch yet, and Harris would miss most of the first month. Despite all that the Braves are 6-4, in first place, and have swept a great team while getting smacked pretty good by another great team.

It might be worth remembering that 6-4 is a 97 win pace. AA will be shopping for a couple bats at the deadline, just like we knew he would be, and this team will be just fine.

I will take any bad/slow start if it means we can finally rid ourselfs of having to watch Ozuna fail 4 nights out of the week. I am sure every catcher in the league will be happy once this loser is no longer playing.

True, but I think it will be north of .000. On the bright side, his walk rate is at a career high

This is a very good team. Injuries have piled up a bit early, but when the ship gets right it should hum right along. Top half of the order is all-world. Fried, Wright, Strider is probably the best 1-2-3 in baseball (when healthy). If I have a worry now, it's probably the bullpen (both the talent level and how Snitker will deploy that talent or lack thereof).

I was just poking around at Ozuna's non counting stats.. I first need a shower, that was nasty.. second if any of these continue, he will be gone when Harris is recalled. low EV (even with the homers), low hard hit%.. no line drives.. crap ton of grounders. no one not making 18 million would still be getting playing time.

I think snit needs to forget the Swanson plan (160 games) for Arcia. I think Arcia will be more effective getting at least 1 game off a week

I really only have faith in Minter/Riggy/Anderson at this point. I know other guys had good years, but most are junk ballers who won't come in and just blow a hitter away. they have to rely on movement to get you out, can be effective, but costly when said movement doesn't happen like you want.
