GDT 5/1/17: Braves vs. MUTTS

His fastball is sitting at 90 tonight. I'm telling ya ....he's been around so long, you forget he's only ONE year older than Folty. He should be absolutely in his prime velocity years for AT LEAST the next few years. I like the guy, but it's only a matter of time before he begins to get torched on a regular basis. The Braves would be smart to move him at the deadline with and keep a vet...bring up some of the young guys (that's aren't really that much younger than Julio).

Is it just me, or does Teheran's fastball LOOK faster than the gun is showing... I think it looks low 90's but the gun is saying high 80's

I'd agree but the Mets are hitting it like it's high 80s rather than low 90s so I'll go with the gun reading.

He had a 3.38 ERA entering the game which is .01 below his career mark. Horrible game tonight though.

He had a FIP over 4 though, with a crazy high walk rate. The last time he had a FIP over 4 and a walk rate over 3 was when he sucked in 2015. His GB% is also down. Way too early to make any snap judgements, but the walk rate is very concerning. Julio is a pitcher that has to keep his walk rate down and hit his spots to be successful, or else he'll be lit up.

Freddie doesn't have great range but he catches what he gets to. Mets announcers were questioning why he was guarding the line like he was. I'm glad he happened to be there, however.

This is a good example of when we talk about someone like Folty or Newcomb. They can not have their best stuff and still have a decent game because their stuff is so good. Julio will get hit hard and often when he doesn't have his good stuff.
