yeah...percentage strikes is probably a good proxy for command...but there are some pitchers who are very good at throwing the ball just outside the strike zone...neither Folty nor Newcomb is that type of pitcher

Number of pitches to get there is my concern.
I'm not arguing newk has great command.
They both average about 5 IPs a start though.
naw.
newk is closer to 6. folty is closer to 5.
That's true. I think it works out to Newk working 1/3 more of an inning per game. But fractions mixed with decimals are hard.
I think it's more than like, like a half an inning. which yeah, doesn't exactly work.
somewhere between a third and a half?
I'm not arguing newk has great command.
You were about the last person to realize that Folty wasn't going to be an ace and you will be about the last person to realize that Newk isn't either. They are both flawed pitchers who are living on borrowed time with the walks. Neither commands it well.
And yet, you spend every Folty game day thread crushing him for his best season to date and proclaiming how you were right about .... something. I have no idea what.
Right. Nobody is saying Folty is Maddux, or even a pitcher with decent command.
The silliness is when folks ding Folty and pimp Newk, and then hide behind the conveniently impossible to prove "control vs command" cliche because they have zero data to back up their claim.
This is what I was trying to explain.
Why ding him, what did he do to you to receive such scorn TheThe? It is not like he banged your wife, scat on your porch or something. And then you pimp a similar pitcher in almost every way except he has A stuff and not A+ stuff like Folty. Are you jealous because Folty has the filthy stuff and a good pitching coach away of being a legit TOR?
Five twelfths.
