Someone just read a Business Insider article and feels really smart!!
Well my point was it's "more diverse", just that it's pretty damn diverse—or, very much not "a bunch of white Midwesterners".
And one thing I like about Chicago is that it's got the population of Brooklyn in four times the area; leads to more topographical diversity, in terms of what the urbs looks like.
The overall point is this is all subjective: New York can be all those centralizing and top-most things you say and still not be the "best" large-city in the US by other criteria.
I suggest central Arizona; the heat's more tolerable, thanks to the aridity, and it never really gets cold.
