GDT 5/16/21: Rays @ Braves - No Joc

I agree that our best outcome would be to get mercy-killed in the next couple of series. The rest of the division has done us the disservice of sucking enough to make us appear competitive but this team is just…not good. I think we need the some clarity on that point.

They just don’t have what it takes. But at least if we are gonna keep up the delusion for a couple more weeks I’d rather see us do it with some different relievers who it won’t cripple the farm to get.

I know it’s not a popular take, but the best case for the Braves and us fans is a nice losing streak to end the mirage of contending and be able to get something for some guys that we are going to lose for nothing and get ready to try to be back in the hunt next season.

That’s not unpopular here. This is the most realistic Braves community I visit. If you were to go to Reddit with that take, you would be downvoted into oblivion though. It doesn’t help when writers like DOB continue sunshine pumping out articles on Joey Gallo, Kris Bryant, etc to get the casual fan more excited and less realistic.

In other words, the Rays, Padres and Phillies need to end this misery in the next 8 days.

To be fair - that's called "doing his job", same goes for Bowman. They're Braves writers, not nationally syndicated guys covering and analyzing MLB overall for an audience with interest in varied topics. People who read their stuff are Braves fans, and when they're interviewed on the Network (TV or Sirius XM) they're only being asked about things from a Braves' (or Braves fan's) perspective.

I read their stuff and would love for some of the crazy things they propose to actually happen because under it all I'm a Braves fan. The flip side is that I - and most everyone that posts or lurks here - go out of my way to research the information I get from their columns a bit deeper to see whether there's a chance it actually might happen so I'm neither shocked nor disappointed when it doesn't. The people you're describing don't, and they wouldn't spend time here because they can't stand being told that most of that stuff is utterly stupid in the long run.

Doesn't make people here "smarter", nor does it make them less "crazy about the Braves" - simply more well-informed.
