GDT: 5/2/22 Braves @ Mutts

I think Charlie will be fine. His velocity is there.

I think he has to find his mechanics again and that broken foot is still messing with his timing in the back of his head.

In the past calendar year (5-2-21 to 5-2-22) Riley is slashing 302/362/554 with 37 hr. 143 WRC+

I loved his homner off a slider last night. I didn't think it was a hanger either. It was starting to break down and in. I doubt that was the location the pitcher wanted, but it didn't just spin in the middle of the plate, Rilet got it right at the bottom of the zone.

Unsustainably high BABIP and FB/HR rate.

So teams love to shift on the infield, but why don't teams shift in the outfield too. Take Ozuna for instances. He is playing LF with a runner on second and a RHH at the dish. Why not shift him to RF and have your better arm in LF since there is a greater chance a clean hit will be between CF and LF line. Why just keep guys in the same defense. A simple jog would get them in place before the batter finishes grabbing his crotch and adjusting his batting gloves.

Riley's BABIP of .305 might actually be low, but it certainly isn't unsustainably high.

That 30% HR/FB is probably a bit high, but something approaching 25% might be sustainable.

Everything Riley is doing right now appears to be completely legit outside of a little extra HR luck. So far in 2022 he has decreased his K rate, improved his BB rate, and is just generally being a stud at the plate. His ability to improve from where he started in 2019 as a guess hitter that swung with his eyes closed is something I can't remember ever seeing from any player before him. It's so unprecedented I keep waiting for the collapse that doesn't seem to be coming.

Agreed… the Riley transformation has been incredible to watch. I had pretty much given up on him. His defense continues to impress me too for a guy his size.

Cy is never serious... or at least that is what his mom told me last night..

Luckily for us we have Chipper and he stepped in and did wonders with him.

I was being facetious. But, I agree with you on not being completely sold that he’s some kind of elite hitter yet, just because his rise is somewhat unprecedented. I am sold that he’s at least a very good Major League bat at this point, however.
