GDT 5/3 - Weird Lineup Today

Not really. FIP is terrible way to judge a pitcher. Especially 2 pitchers on the same team. And after only 1 month of play.

Son what is your basis for Folty being better?

He has the lower BABIP / Higher strand rate / lower gb ratio /higher bb per 9

In what world has folty been better?

Elephant keeper was tied up at work. But now

They've given up the same amount walks over a difference of 2 innings pitched. Let's not go overboard here. Let's not forget Newk had a 4.5 BB/9 at the end of April (i.e. one start ago). Overall, I'd say it's pretty neglible. Folty's BABIP is well below career averages, true, but it's still fairly close to league average, and if he has improved significantly you would expect his BABIP to drop a good bit anyways.

I think thethe is drunk on Fried, and off-base on Folty; but I’m about a month of good performances away from giving him credit on Newcomb.

My guess on the Gosselin waiver wire pick-up is that he is just depth and we have plenty of room on the 40-man. Plus I expect Joey Bats soon and AA probably wants that depth now since Culberson is unlikely to clear waivers. I know y'all say why would anyone grab him. Same reason the Dodgers did, he is a plus defender at short and like Gosselin he can play many positions well too. Neither have hit much, Gosselin hit better years ago but more recently he has stunk with the bat too. I could see the Dodgers wanting Culberson back on a waivers claim.

Plus Culberson could choose to become a free agent if he clears, a la Lane Adams.

I don't understand the pile up on thethe. Sure his optimism is over the top, but he isn't insulting anyone or being a smartass. He's just being optimistic. There will be a slump at some point this year where the attitude here is going to take a turn for the worst and we'll need some optimism. As I tell my elementary school-aged kids, its okay to ignore it when it isn't hurting you.

I love his optimism... what's annoying is his trash talk when a player has one good game... like Camargo hits a homer and we always see something like "where's all the Camargo haters now?" Plus he's all clv and only reads what he wants... if someone is critical of a player or says they need to work on an aspect of their game... in thethe's mind it's "that player sucks"

Hmmm....I don't say that really.

The riley comment today was tongue in cheek because the inverse of that comment was made a day earlier.

I'm fine sitting in my tree thinking about the greatness if the next ten years.

You do it quite often... I am an optimistic fan. I love this team and I love the future.

BTW, I would still trade Markakis if someone shows interest and use the money to improve the bullpen, etc. Markakis was hitting .319 as late as May 16th last year too and hit .310 the first month. While he may do better this year in a contract year, I expect his numbers to come back closer to his norm by season's end. So I'd trade him if someone would take that contract. Then you have more money to take on in a trade to improve the pen, etc.
